About Jenny

Jenny Clifford's profile picture
Versatile classically trained guitarist specialising in genres such as acoustic fingerpicking, jazz, blues and rock

Jenny Clifford is a guitarist from Fife, Scotland and is currently based between Glasgow and Edinburgh. Graduating from Edinburgh Napier University with a 1st class honours degree in music, Jenny majored in classical guitar and won various performance awards on the way such as the Norman Quinney medal for solo performance and Rita Quinney medal for ensemble performance. Born into a musical family, Jenny's passion for music has been strong and varied for as long as she can remember. She began her instrumental lessons with the cello at the age of 8, performing in orchestras and string groups until High School when she made her first steps towards her dream of becoming a guitarist. Contrary to the usual tendencies of beginning with classical and drifting towards rock, Jenny began with the electric guitar and performed regular gigs with bands throughout High School. This is where she also discovered her love for jazz marked by her experience as a member of the Fife Youth Jazz Orchestra under the supervision of the great jazz pianist and composer Richard Michael. It wasn't until fifth and sixth year that she decided she would go down the classical route and was accepted into Edinburgh Napier University to study music and the classical guitar. There, she developed her guitar skills under the guidance of innovative performer and teacher, Simon Thacker. Jenny has gone on to perform in many different bands in numerous venues all over Britain and has even made appearances on television as part of the Sky Arts show Guitar Star, playing infront of industry legends such as Tony Visconti, George Benson and Miloš Karadaglić. She plays as part of numerous groups and is available to book as part of a jazz duo named ByJune consisting of guitar and voice and a upbeat latin guitar duo with guitarist Alison Tod.
