Whilst studying at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Jemma reached the final of the college’s Concerto Competition in her very first term, going on to win the first Ev-entz Solo Percussion Prize the year after. She is also a Live Music Now artist and works in conjunction with young and upcoming composers to create new and exciting repertoire for percussion. Jemma is happy to arrange any song you’d like for your event for solo marimba. Jemma is also happy to perform as an orchestral percussionist with orchestras, choirs, musicals, etc., or for pop and club events on Latin percussion. She is also a passionate and experienced percussion teacher for pupils of all ages; her current pupils ranging from 5 to 74 years old.

Customer questions

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

We always try our best to be flexible to help ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. If timings change slightly in the run up to the event just let us know.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Happily, although if you require me to supply the PA there will be an additional fee.

How much time do you need to set up?

I usually arrive one hour before the performance is due to begin, but if you require a quick get-in please discuss this with me.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

I am more than happy to create bespoke set lists with you to ensure your event is as perfect as possible.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Yes indeed.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

I would be more than happy to learn additional songs for your event, but due to time restraints, I do cap this at five songs before incurring a charge.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

Audiences of all kinds are captivated by the beautiful, warm sound and the visual aspect of the marimba. It is very different from your conventional pianos and string ensembles and always takes guests by surprise!

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

I have performed in everything from musical theatre pits to vast concert halls with ensembles around Europe, and in numerous wedding venues and recital halls across the UK as a soloist.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Emiko Uchimaya is my favourite marimbist as it were, but I take inspiration from all kinds of musicians such as Aretha Franklin, Bill Laurance, Lizzo and Mongo Santamaria.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

I once performed in a European palace for a Prince and Princess.
