Customer questions
What if my timings change after I've booked you?
As a solo artist I can be fairly flexible, however, please let me know in plenty of time if this happens as my transport is organised in advance.
Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?
I can play incidental/background music between sets and up to 30 minutes after my last set for no additional charge if requested in advance. If music is required outside of those constraints please let me know before you book so that I can amend my quote accordingly.
How much time do you need to set up?
It takes around 45 minutes for me to set up and be ready to perform. If I am conducting quiz questions as part of the entertainment I prefer to arrive at least 1.5 hours before my first set so that I can encourage people to take part before I start.
Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?
Yes, that's no problem at all. I have a repertoire of around 3 hours so will normally have some flexibility in terms of song choices. Just let me know your preferences in advance so that I can program the relevant numbers in to the set.
Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?
I provide all of the audio equipment necessary for me to perform in small to medium sized venues. Reasonable lighting needs to be present in the performance area so that the audience can see me. I can quote to provide stage lights and/or a PA for large venues if required.
Can you learn specific pieces before the event?
I play or sing to pre-programmed backing tracks so learning a requested song will be dependent on firstly, the availability of a suitable backing track and secondly, if it's a vocal song, whether it is within my range and capability. I am happy to discuss any requirements and advise accordingly.
What do your clients love most about your performances?
The diversity and range of songs that I play. I aim to produce as close a sound to the original music as possible whether it be Country, Blues, Rock & Roll, Pop or Rock. People also often comment that it's great to recall the songs I play as they are not often performed by other musicians or bands.
Which venues have you performed at in the past?
Over the 40+ years that I have been playing music I have performed in bands, trios, duos and as a solo artist in a huge range of venues. From the back room in a country pub entertaining a select group of 20 to open air festivals with more than 40,000 in the audience.
Which artists have you been most influenced by?
Mostly guitar greats spanning several decades and many genres. Players like Hank Marvin, Chet Atkins, Duane Eddy, Carlos Santana, Jan Akkerman, Mark Knopfler, Albert Lee, Joe Pass and many more.
What is the most high profile gig you've performed?
I played guitar on a tour with Ricky Valance (of Tell Laura I Love Her fame) in the eighties and we performed to a packed house at the New Theatre Royal in Lincoln. It was both nerve-racking and exhilarating! Very memorable.
