About Gail

Amazingly versatile and expressive performer - many genres, even more tunes, working in London, Home Counties & throughout the UK.
Pianist
Saffron Walden
Public liability insurance of £10 million

An accomplished, versatile and experienced pianist/accompanist, I began playing the piano at four years old - just loafing around before that. I play music because I love it, it's my means of expression, and I really enjoy sharing my enjoyment with others. My experience covers everything from corporate & private entertaining, to music hall, classical recitals, musical theatre, music hall, accompanying silent movies, and costumed period events. I have a particularly wide repertoire in vocal and musical theatre accompanying classical instrumental and vocal music (including opera and lieder), musical theatre, pop, TV, movie themes, jazz standards, and light classics. If you have a particular request, which I don't already play, I'm happy to learn the song, and add it to my repertoire! I've played at some beautiful venues, including the Fitzwilliam Museum, Audley End House, the Czech Embassy, Italian Consulate, and at some prestigious events, such as corporate banking evenings, University of Cambridge and business events, and the Waterloo Ball for the Napoleonic Association. As much as I love playing just for myself anyway, it's the audience that brings the music and the experience completely alive for me, and I am happy to say that I'm known for expressive, emotional and exciting playing. I'm also used to playing for children, and being 'helped' at the keyboard - and if there are guests who have a party piece, I can accompany them (changing the key to suit if that helps!) Going beyond the usual, and taking extra care to make sure that clients, audience, customers - and indeed anyone listening - enjoys the music. I'm known for the commitment I give to each event I perform for, for keeping the client involved at every stage, and for the expressive playing I produce to bring the best kind of atmosphere to their event or day. That's as standard. I've had a lot of experience playing for and with children, and am an experienced dance pianist and Nanna. (Yes, I can supply references from a happy two and a half year old grandson, on request). Any more extras a client requires, well - it's their day, so that's what goes! I honestly try and do everything to ensure that I'm either asked to play for the client again, or to be recommended to others.

Dear Katie and Darren, Thank you so much for your review - it was one of the most enjoyable weddings I've played for - and I don't think I'll forget Arthur riding up the aisle on his trike! Many congratulations again, and all the best for the future. Gail

Gail is an absolutely fantastic musician. She played beautifully on her piano for two hours at my daughters wedding held at Parklands, Quendon Hall on 27th July 2021. She is so incredibly talented and everyone commented on how she played and lovely it was to listen to her. I would recommend Gail to anyone looking for a truely talented professional pianist to play at any special event especially weddings. I most certainly would hire her again. She is a lovely lady and arrived giving herself plenty of time to prepare ready to play. She accommodated my additional requests, was beautifully dressed and made a special point of introducing herself and congratulating the bride and groom. Thank you Gail for making the day even more special and congratulations on your 36th Wedding Anniversary. We loved having you join us in celebrating Meloney and Ritesh's Wedding.

We very much enjoy working with Gail. Her talents as a pianist are impeccable and, from a busy organiser’s point of view, I have always been grateful for her reliability, professionalism, enthusiasm and adaptability. We really appreciate the fact that she is keen to learn about the event: who is attending, what our client wants to achieve from it and so on, so that she can be sure that her playlist fits. Gail would always be our first choice when we are looking for a pianist, and although we’ve always had a piano available for her to use, it’s great that she has a portable instrument too.

Customer questions

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

Let me know as soon as you do, and I'll do my best to be flexible.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

No, but I'm happy for one to be fitted around me.

How much time do you need to set up?

Under half an hour to set up keyboard and amp, etc. If I'm playing on a piano that's at the venue, then about 15 minutes.

If I have a piano at my venue, are you happy to perform on that?

Yes indeed! - So long as it's in full working order, and regularly tuned and maintained, I'm more than happy to play on it.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

If you can't see your favourites, choices or ideas from my repertoire, I'm always happy to chat through what you'd like, and to learn anything that I can for the day.

Are you able to bring your own piano or keyboard?

Piano, er, no, but I have a Korg Kross synthesizer/workstation, which has full concert piano sound, and can supply strings, harpsichord, church organ and loads of other sounds you probably never knew existed.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

If a song's not in my repertoire, ask me if I know it anyway. If I don't I'll always do my best to learn any new material. Always great to get new ideas!

What do your clients love most about your performances?

I play from the heart , I've got a huge repertoire of many styles, and I like my clients, congregation, audience to feel they're each being played to personally. I do my best to make sure that folk of all ages enjoy what I play - including babies and children!

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Italian Consulate, Czech Embassy, Fitzwilliam Museum Cambridge, Sidney Sussex College Cambridge. Lloyds Bank Canary Wharf, London.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Peter Skellern, Billy Joel, Chet Baker, Harold Arlen, George Gershwin.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

Markova House for the ballet class scenes featured in Diana The Last Days documentary on Channel 4 (2016).
