About Funky

Your crowd. Great vibe. Big smiles. Classic bangers to modern belters, mixed live. You relax. I’ll handle the music.

Hi, I’m Pete, the Funky Booth DJ. I love what music does to people. One track can bring back a memory, pull someone onto the dancefloor or turn a room full of different people into one happy crowd. That still gives me a huge buzz, every single time. I’ve lived through decades of great music and still keep up with what works now. That means I can move confidently between old favourites, newer tracks and everything in between, bringing different ages and tastes together without the music feeling all over the place. Parties, weddings and corporate events all have their own rhythm. Some start with cool background grooves while people arrive and chat. Others need big singalong moments, hands-in-the-air tracks or a few brilliant surprises along the way. I mix live and build the music around the people in front of me. The work starts well before I press play. We’ll talk about who’s coming, the atmosphere you want, key moments and the songs you love. I’ll then prepare carefully, so everything feels calm and easy when the event arrives. You’ll always get me, from the first message to the final track, along with quality sound, smart lighting and a professional setup. I don’t take myself too seriously, but I take DJing very seriously. You relax. I’ll handle the music.

Pete provides a great DJ set and is highly recommended. As a music student and into sound I thought his set up was well balanced with good bass definition. A treat for your ears!

What a surprise from my son, a birthday house party with Pete doing a DJ set and loads of my favourite tunes. I went to bed with them still spinning round in my head. Next Saturday is going to feel quite dull!

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

Two things: the music feels made for them, and the night runs smoothly. I mix across styles and eras, but I’m always reading the room and playing what their crowd wants. I take requests seriously, stick to must plays and do not plays, and I turn up fully prepped so it all feels easy.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

25-150 guests, private parties and venues.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Everyone from Stevie Wonder, through Calvin Harris, to James Hype

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

No A-list celebrity name-drop yet… I’m working on it. And when I do one, private events are usually private for a reason, so I probably wouldn’t be allowed to say anyway. But honestly, on the night, everyone on the dancefloor’s the A-list.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

I’ll always be as flexible as I reasonably can. Small changes are usually easy to handle; bigger changes to timings, access or venue may affect the quote, but I’ll explain everything clearly first.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes. Background music before the main DJ set is available as a paid add-on. Once the main set starts, I keep the music flowing through to the finish.

How much time do you need to set up?

Usually around an hour. I like to arrive early enough to unload, set everything up safely, check the sound and lighting, and be ready before the music starts.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

Yes. We’ll talk about the styles you enjoy, the atmosphere you want and a small number of favourite tracks. I’ll use that as the starting point, then build and mix the set around the people there.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Yes. I bring quality sound, smart lighting, all the DJ equipment I need and backup kit too.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

Yes. If there’s a particular track that matters, such as a first dance, entrance song, family favourite or surprise, I’ll source the right version and prepare it beforehand. I know those personal moments are often the ones people remember most.
