Fiona Mclaughlin, originally from Yorkshire, has made music her lifelong companion,
guiding her through diverse and enriching experiences. A graduate of Dartington
College of Arts, with a formative stint at the Lisbon School of Music, she honed her
craft with a scholarship at the Oxford Summer School for Flutes, studying with
masters such as Wissam Boustany, Peter Lloyd, and Janet Way. Her learning journey
took her to Maastricht, with Peters Ricjks, and Malmö, with Anders Ljungar-
Chapelon, where she continually explored innovative ways to bring her instrument to
life.
More than an impressive resume, Fiona is a musical adventurer who has shared her
love for music across the globe. From the Middle East to South Africa, Turkey to India,
she has inspired students and audiences with her engaging passion and warm teaching style.
In Abu Dhabi, she developed the first instrumental program at the British School and
was its first woodwind instructor. She also performed in prestigious venues as a
soloist and chamber musician, including the Reid Concert Hall in Edinburgh, Eton
House for the Duke of Westminster, and the Sea Palace of the Crown Prince of Abu
Dhabi.
Since December 2022, Fiona has been based in France, juggling concerts, musical
ensembles, and teaching. In addition to flute, she teaches saxophone and clarinet.
Her love of tango, particularly Piazzolla’s works, led her to form a duo with guitarist
Fabien Planquart to champion this repertoire. Parallel to this, she embarks on a new
musical adventure with Déborah Colucci, founding Ladies Balakai. Fiona bridges
cultures, styles, and generations, driven by her unwavering passion for music
