About Felix Kirkby

Concert pianist and former Organ Scholar at Christ Church, Oxford. I promise to knock your socks off - and I can sight-read anything!
Pianist

Public liability insurance of £10 million

One of the earliest photos I have shows me sitting at the piano, in my high chair, trying to sight-read a Bach prelude and fugue. I've lived and breathed music since I was tiny. I scored a Distinction in my Grade 8 at the age of 10 and studied for my First Diploma when I was 12. More recently, I've played some of the hardest pieces ever written (including Ravel's Gaspard) for charity concerts across the UK; I've performed at countless weddings, funerals, and public events; and I've organised a concert in Ely Cathedral in aid of a national foundation helping young LGBT people. My performances are generally characterised by extreme emotional lucidity, in addition to consummate professionalism and technical mastery of my chosen instruments - I can promise I'll make your guests laugh (or cry, hopefully for the right reasons). Nothing brings me more joy than inspiring others to love music in the same way as I do. I am convinced that single song, a dance at a wedding, a piece at a funeral, can make all the difference. I'm currently studying for my FRSM in addition to my degree at Oxford. I can be found working as the Chief Conductor of the OFO; lecturing about philosophy, music, and theology to prospective Oxbridge applicants; and writing my debut novel. Rather than focusing on the mechanical elements of 'perfect' technique (something which can be honed by anyone willing to put in the work), my performances cohere around the great 'intangibles' of music - that is, the unique ability of sound to whisk your guests away to a world which shares nothing in common with our own. Although I've generally specialised in weddings, funerals, and private functions, I pride myself on being a versatile and flexible musician. I have a proven track record of sight-reading anything given to me (including an unseen orchestral score of Verdi's Requiem for a public concert), so I'm very happy to do any kind of last-minute functions and performances. In trouble? In a pinch? Your pianist suddenly got COVID? Contact me and I'll sort it out.

The only true musician there. [Concert included Tamas Paflavi, the youngest Professor of Music in history, and Yuri Revich, a Viennese virtuoso violinist with a sponsored Stradivarius.]

Customer questions

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

I'm always happy to be flexible to ensure your event runs smoothly. Feel free to change your timings - and, if you do so, please do let me know.

How much time do you need to set up?

Provided a piano or an organ is already provided, I need no more than five minutes :)

If I have a piano at my venue, are you happy to perform on that?

Yes, of course - as long as the piano is in working order and in tune, then I'm happy to play on it!

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

My set-list has been honed through years of experience playing for diverse functions and events. However, if you'd like music tailored exclusively for you (say, at a wedding or a celebration of a loved one's life), I'd be thrilled to talk to you to agree exactly what you'd like. Please do check my Add-Ons for more detail!

Are you able to bring your own piano or keyboard?

I'm afraid I rely on an instrument being provided. My piano is heavy enough that transporting it requires a removals van...

Can you learn song requests before the event?

Always!
