Ernesto Marichales

Ernesto Marichales is a Percussionist, Drummer and Film Composer based in London. Ernesto has been playing since the age of 8. Having grown up in a family with a musical background, he began playing and touring professionally very early at the age of 9. He obtained his BA (Hons.) in Music Performance and Production at the London Centre of Contemporary Music (LCCM), Middlesex University in 2012. Being a musician with a long career behind him that keep diversifying, Ernesto is also an MA graduate in Mass Media & Communication from the Santa Maria University in his hometown Caracas, Venezuela. His first percussion professors in Venezuela were the Cuban Maestro and Composer Tata Guerra, and the Venezuelan Maestro Nene Quintero, Ernesto also studied classical guitar in the Yamaha music school for 2 years. In England his drum professors have been Pete Zeldman, Brian McLellan, Graham Fox, Richard Brook and Pete Carter. Also having had Roddy Matthews, Simon Wallace and Mark Amstrong tutoring him in composition and Auio&Video Synchronization. Ernesto also has vast experience as a Creative Director and Copywriter, his work and creativity were recognized with a number of awards and works of international recognition, while always keeping his musical career and studies active. One of Ernesto’s main musical projects is a well-known underground jazzy, and groove band named Le merm. They have had a considerable airplay on Venezuelan radio with their first album “Deep chill Sessions”, and are currently working on their second album. He has been invited to play with artists in styles as diverse as Bruce Springsteen or Fania All Stars Pianist and Composer Larry Harlow(NYC), Simon Diaz, Maria Teresa chacín, Plastilina Mosh(Mex.), Los Tetas(Chile), Tony Vega, Cheo Feliciano, Hermán Olivera, Luis Carrion, Armando Manzaneros, Danny Rivera, Chucho Avellanet, Adedeji Adetayo Just to name few of the list of artists he has recorded and played with, showing his versatility as a musician. Ernesto has played in some of the most important worldwide stages, festivals and venues as: Glastonbury, Big chill, On the heath Festival, Womad, The O2, Band on the wall, Fringe Edinburgh, Africa Oye, Womad Russia, Blue note, Ronnie Scott, Royal Albert Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, The Jazz Cafe, Teatro Teresa Carreño, Festival Number 6, Shambala Festival, Secret Garden Festival. among others. Eventually teachs drums at The London City Academy and LCCM.
