Emily Potter began her career in music while studying with Sandy Duffy Norman of Sunridge Flute Studios in Salem, Oregon. Her early education included serving as principal flute with the Salem Youth Symphony for four years, competing at regional and national levels including the OMEA and MTNA solo competitions, winning Oregon’s State high school competition, and taking part in masterclasses and having lessons with Marianne Gedigian, Jill Felber, Amy Porter, Molly Barth, and Stephen Preston. Emily recently graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Flute Performance, where she studied with several teachers including Linda Toote and Renee Krimsier.  While studying at Boston University, she participated in the BU Wind Ensemble as well as in Time's Arrow, an ensemble that performed solely contemporary compositions as well as newly composed music. She was also part of several Baroque Chamber groups under the tutelage of Martin Pearlman.  She has supplemented her degree through competitions and summer programs including the ARIA International Summer Academy, the Flute Extremes (FluX) Workshop, and the Pappoutsakis Memorial Flute Competition. She has performed at the National Flute Association Conference as a Miyazawa Emerging Artist, and was principal flute in Cosi fan tutte at the Astoria Music Festival. She has volunteered at local schools through the Boston University Making Music program as well as at the Boston Symphony Orchestra's Instrument Playground. She has given her time playing concerts to help raise funds for the Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children and for cancer research at the Oregon Health and Science University.  Emily is currently attending the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she will be receiving her Master of Music degree. Her teachers include Ian Clarke, Philippa Davies, Christopher Green, and Gareth Davies. There she has worked with the GSMD Orchestra and Opera program.
