Originally from Failsworth, Emily is a recent graduate of Magdalen College, Oxford, where she obtained her bachelor's degree and studies on the Guildhall Artist Master's programme (Orchestral Artistry). During her studies at Oxford, she held a music scholarship as well as the faculty Ensemble ISIS scholarship on the oboe and cor anglais, and was a finalist and winner of the Pendle Young Musician's Bursary competition 2020. Emily gained her DipABRSM whilst studying with David Cowdy at the Junior RNCM, where she frequently performed as both a soloist and chamber musician; Emily subsequently studied with Tom Blomfield on the Oxford-Royal Academy of Music scheme. Recently, she performed Copland’s ‘The Rainbow’ and ‘Quiet City’ with the Vacation Chamber Orchestra as a soloist, praised for her ‘rich’ cor anglais sound in the Craven Herald. Emily often plays principal oboe and cor anglais in several orchestras, including the Oxford University Orchestra, OU Sinfonietta, Oxford Alternative Orchestra, Amadeus Orchestra, and St Cecilia Orchestra. She has also played with the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra in concert under their newly established side-by-side scheme. Her involvement with New Chamber Opera and OAO has culminated in staged operatic performances from Mozart to Reich with both professional and student musicians. Though heavily involved with the orchestral scene, Emily is also a keen chamber musician. She formed the Ostro Wind Quintet/Sextet in 2017, and has performed with the wind octet Eight-Eighty with students from RAM and RCM in London.
