Duo Arthema

The London-based musicians of Duo Arthema studied at the Royal Academy of Music and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. Both musicians have been playing professionally for over 10 years, and have a wealth of experience behind them. Formed in 2018, both musicians have been playing together all over the UK and internationally since. Meet the players: Sarah Ovenden - Flautist Sarah completed her masters in music at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in 2016, graduating with distinction. During her time here she was awarded the ‘Friends in New York of TCM London Award and Edgar TP Comley Prize for Excellence.’ As an orchestral musician, Sarah has played with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, and freelances with orchestras, opera companies and ensembles around the UK. As well as Duo Arthema, she is a member of the Waldegrave Ensemble, who released an album in 2016 of Matthew Taylor’s works. Sarah has performed with members of London Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and has played in venues in France, Germany, Prague and Malta. As a soloist Sarah has more recently performed Ibert’s flute concerto with Sinfonia Tamesa and Nielsen's flute concerto with the LSE symphony orchestra. Emre Gokalp - Guitarist Born in Turkey, 1988, Emre Gokalp is an award-winning classical guitarist who is currently living in London. He began to study classical guitar with Professor Ahmet Kanneci at 8 years old. Thanks to his successful application and scholarship from the Borusan Kocabıyık Foundation, he has graduated from the Royal Academy of Music, Master of Arts programme with DipRAM and Frank Britton Prize in 2014. He has won several prizes in international guitar competitions around the world since 1999 and most recently won the "1st International Guitar Competition Paris Guitar Foundation" in 2016. He has performed in various music festivals and competitions in Turkey, Bulgaria, Armenia, France, Spain, Italy, United Kindgdom, United States of America and many others. "Emre is a beautiful player. His smooth and agile technique gives him the possibility to express his musical ideas to the full. I very much enjoyed hearing him perform recently.
