Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

People seem to really enjoy my unique catalog of songs and my interaction with the audience, when appropriate. I like to have fun and bring something a bit different to any event where I perform.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

I'll play anywhere that appreciates live music. This includes dive bars, pub and Clubhouses.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

There are too many to mention, I've always paid more attention to songs and how they sound than the performers singing them.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

I have a few stories along these lines. I once played a "Bluegrass" themed night in Surrey, with John Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin in attendance. After my set he shook my hand and said he like my stuff. I didn't realize it was him until the promoter pointed him out later in the evening.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

I will always do my best to facilitate and scheduling changes within reason.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

An iPod or other device can be played through my PA once set up and between sets.

How much time do you need to set up?

I'll need between 30 and 45 minutes to set up.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

Suggestions are always welcome, I may choose not to do certain songs to maintain a professional level of performance.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

I will provide all the needed sound equipment need to perform. All I need is power and reasonable light.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

I am willing to consider any song requests. I may rework the song to fit within the styles I normally play.

Doug was exactly what we were looking for. His gravely voice and excellent guitar playing perfectly complement the Americana. We had him as our 4 act at our wedding, which started with people sitting down and listening, but then he managed to get people up and dancing which was just perfect. Not only is Doug an amazing musician but he is also a lovely guy. We would highly recommend him for any occasion!!

Doug was great - very sensitive to the spirit of the party and the audience and played a fantastic playlist of songs including a few very special songs for the birthday boy who couldn't have been happier.

Doug is a regular performer at my venue, either solo or with his band, and we always have dates in the diary booked ahead. He puts a great spin on time honoured classic crowd pleasers and always builds a great rapport with the audience. His American upbringing lends authenticity to the material and he knows when to have his tongue in his cheek and when to play it straight. As if being a very talented and professional performer wasn’t enough, he is also one of the nicest blokes you’ll ever meet!

We've had both Doug Nissley and his band Phil Dirt and the heavy machines play for us and can't rate them highly enough, always arrives in good time to get the lie of the land and set up. Plays a right good range of foot stomping crowd pleasers as well as some excellent self penned numbers. Guaranteed to get the crowd going with his mix of Americana Country Blues and Rock, gonna be back with us in the future I have no doubt
