About David Roberts - Wedding Guitarist

Solo acoustic folk guitarist, perfect for background music at wedding receptions, & during parts of the ceremony. Pieces learned on request.
Guitarist
Cardiff
Public liability insurance of £5 million

Whether it’s a particular piece to walk down the aisle to, or beautiful background music for the drinks reception or dinner, I can provide the perfect musical accompaniment to your day. I have a large repertoire of classic & modern pop songs, all played in a folky acoustic style, along with many classical, jazz and folk pieces. I can prepare & learn special pieces for your day & tailor the music to compliment the ceremony perfectly. I’m based in Cardiff & have great experience performing at weddings and shows across the country. My own music has been played on the BBC Radio 2 Folk Show, and by Cerys Matthews on BBC6 Music. Amongst other projects I have worked as a session guitarist at Abbey Road in London, & worked with Lighthouse Family on acoustic versions of some of their hit songs. I am able to travel across South Wales, Mid Wales, Bristol & The South West of England & can even come to Birmingham & the Midlands. Get in touch about travel costs for anything even further afield. I can play in large and small spaces, indoor & outdoor, and have amplification. All that is required from the venue is a power outlet.

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

My clients have often said they are over the moon with the special pieces that I learn for the wedding ceremony - I really enjoy finding ways to play familiar songs as a solo guitarist - so that you clearly hear the chords and melody in the performance. Clients have often said that I created the perfect relaxed yet upbeat atmosphere as background music too.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

I have performed at various wedding venues including Dewsall Court, Homme House, Barns & Yard, Lemore Manor & Hampton Court Castle. As a musician I have also performed at venues across the UK, including at Manchester Albert Hall, The Roundhouse in London, Glasgow Fruitmarket, and Bristol O2, as well as session work at Abbey Road, & with Lighthouse Family.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

My playing style is very influenced by guitarists such as James Taylor, John Martyn, Tommy Emmanuel and Nick Drake, but I enjoy playing songs from all sorts of artists, especially the Beatles.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

The most high profile wedding gig I have performed was a wedding at Hampton Court Castle in Herefordshire. It is a truly incredible venue and I hope to go back there soon. Apart from weddings I have also played at London's Roundhouse in the band Fictonian, supporting Nick Mulvey on his UK tour. It was a great show!

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

It's no problem at all to make changes up until the day - I can be totally flexible!

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

No I don't sorry.

How much time do you need to set up?

I normally arrive 1 hour before the performance time, (just to be safe!), although it usually only takes me 10 minutes to set up.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

Yes! I can tailor the setlist to meet your needs, and select particular songs for parts of the ceremony & I will happily prepare 1 or 2 pieces on request - perhaps for the aisle entrance or the exit. Normally I will play a selection from my repertoire for the drinks reception or through dinner.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Yes! I bring everything I need including amplification & extension leads. All I need from the venue is a power outlet somewhere nearby, and an armless chair.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

Yes! I will happily prepare 1 or 2 pieces on request - perhaps for the aisle entrance or the exit. (Included in the price!)

Highly recommend David. His guitar playing is beautiful - it provided a magical sound track to our wedding ceremony and reception. We were inundated with compliments about the music from our guests. He went above and beyond learning two new songs for us at relatively short notice, both of which were executed to perfection, testament to his skill. Thank you David!

If you're looking for a guitarist for your event, you've found your man! David surpassed all of our expectations and made our wedding extra special. We even asked for a difficult Irish piece to be played as I walked down the aisle and his version brought tears to everyone's eyes. Thank you so much David! Olivia and Patrick

David was fantastic! He learnt a piece of music especially for my aisle walk which he played beautifully. We had so many comments about how great he was. His repertoire is super broad and as above, he can pretty much play anything with a bit of notice! We’ve been raving about him since the wedding and would recommend to anyone thinking of having a guitarist for any celebration.

"We decided to have David play at our wedding (church ceremony) due to his huge repertoire of songs. From the first point of contact, not only was he patient with our busy schedules but he gave us great confidence that the music at our church ceremony would be intimate but memorable. David also volunteered to learn some personal favourite songs of ours and this really showed just how passionate he was about music but also to make sure our day was perfect. On the day, due to hectic scheduling, David was able to manage himself and discuss all requirements with our wedding coordinator, and played the music as our guests walked through the church. The music gave the church a real atmosphere and we received plenty of compliments about our choice of musician. I cannot recommend David strongly enough and implore anyone looking for an acoustic guitarist to consider him. Thank you so much David for your amazing rendition of Mr Bojangles, among other songs and I am wishing you all the best for the future."

David recently played at our wedding – he was fantastic! As well as playing his extensive repertoire or music whilst all of our guests mingled after the ceremony, he was willing to learn a few songs of our choice to play as my wife walked up and back down the aisle. He sent us samples of the songs to make sure we were happy with them before the day. We had so many comments from the guests about David’s music. Lovely guy, couldn’t recommend him highly enough.
