About David Roberts - Wedding Guitarist

Solo acoustic guitarist, perfect for background music at wedding receptions, & during parts of the ceremony. Pieces learned on request.

Whether it’s a particular piece to walk down the aisle to, or beautiful background music for the drinks reception or dinner, I can provide the perfect musical accompaniment to your day. I love playing music for peoples special day, and I take real pride in planning every detail together, to suit their needs exactly. I have a large repertoire of classic & modern pop songs, all played in a folky acoustic style, along with many classical, jazz and folk pieces. I can prepare & learn special pieces for your day & tailor the music to compliment the ceremony perfectly. I’m based in Cardiff & have great experience performing at weddings and shows across the country. My own music has been played on the BBC Radio 2 Folk Show, and by Cerys Matthews on BBC6 Music. Amongst other projects I have worked as a session guitarist at Abbey Road in London, & worked with Lighthouse Family on acoustic versions of some of their hit songs. I am able to travel across South Wales, Mid Wales, Bristol & The South West of England & can even come to Birmingham & the Midlands. Get in touch about travel costs for anything even further afield. I can play in large and small spaces, indoor & outdoor, and have high quality battery powered amplification if necessary, so it’s easy to set up anywhere, without the need for power outlets or extensions.

David was absolutely fantastic. A brilliant rendition of I Was Made For Loving You by KISS for the entrance, especially considering we only booked David within a few weeks of the wedding. Positive feedback from all our guests. 100% would recommend.

David came and played at our daughter’s wedding. We all thoroughly enjoyed the music and his playing. It was fantastic to have him playing in the background. He was a really nice chap, who turned up early and fitted in with us all, Thank you!

'David played for our recent wedding ceremony and was absolutely perfect. We had so many comments from guests to say how much they enjoyed the music, it really set the scene and created a lovely atmosphere. David was communicative and friendly throughout the planning process and played a beautiful adaptation of one of our favourite songs for the processional. We would definitely recommend!'

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

My clients have often said they are over the moon with the special pieces that I learn for the wedding ceremony - I really enjoy finding ways to play familiar songs as a solo guitarist - so that you clearly hear the chords and melody in the performance. Clients have often said that I created the perfect relaxed yet upbeat atmosphere as background music too.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

I have performed at various wedding venues including Dewsall Court, Homme House, Barns & Yard, Lemore Manor & Hampton Court Castle. As a musician I have also performed at venues across the UK, including at Manchester Albert Hall, The Roundhouse in London, Glasgow Fruitmarket, and Bristol O2, as well as session work at Abbey Road, & with Lighthouse Family.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

My playing style is very influenced by guitarists such as James Taylor, John Martyn, Tommy Emmanuel and Nick Drake, but I enjoy playing songs from all sorts of artists, especially the Beatles.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

The most high profile wedding gig I have performed was a wedding at Hampton Court Castle in Herefordshire. It is a truly incredible venue and I hope to go back there soon. Apart from weddings I have also played at London's Roundhouse in the band Fictonian, supporting Nick Mulvey on his UK tour. It was a great show!

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

It's no problem at all to make changes up until the day - I can be totally flexible!

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

No I don't sorry.

How much time do you need to set up?

I normally arrive 1 hour before the performance time, (just to be safe!), although it usually only takes me 10 minutes to set up.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

Yes! I can tailor the setlist to meet your needs, and select particular songs for parts of the ceremony & I will happily prepare 1 or 2 pieces on request - perhaps for the aisle entrance or the exit. Normally I will play a selection from my repertoire for the drinks reception or through dinner.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Yes! I bring everything I need including amplification & extension leads. All I need from the venue is a power outlet somewhere nearby, and an armless chair.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

Yes! I will happily prepare 1 or 2 pieces on request - perhaps for the aisle entrance or the exit. (Included in the price!)
