David Leighton

I am a Mathematics student at the University of York. From September 2013 I began studying at the University of Edinburgh and during my time there was a dependable member of three orchestras, a string quartet and cello duo. Our duo busked on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh regularly and went on to win the "Best Musicians" award at the 2015 Edinburgh Student arts festival with our set of contemporary music covers. I am now located near York and am already a valued member of the university music community, playing in the Symphony orchestra, the Chamber orchestra and the Concert orchestra (principal cellist). On weekends, I am a music leader at Castaway Goole, where I teach music to youngsters with varying disabilities. I have played for dance recitals, on the radio and in pit orchestras (for Les Miserables, "SlumDoc Millionaire" (Student spoof production) and West Side Story). I am also no stranger to a recording session, having been recorded for several EPs. I enjoy getting involved with all musical environments/genres and am happy to hear any propositions.
