Darren Gallacher

Darren Gallacher is a percussionist from Greenock, Scotland. He has enjoyed a varied career throughout his time as a percussionist, beginning lessons in high school before becoming student to Ruari Donaldson at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland Junior Academy. He then went onto study at Edinburgh Napier University with Peter Evans where he would gain his Bachelor of Music degree with First Class Honours. He is currently studying at the Royal Northern College of Music on the Master of Music Course and is extremely grateful to the Ann Driver trust and Help Musicians UK for their contributions towards his studies. Darren enjoys being a versatile musician and exploring all genres of music. He has freelanced as an orchestral player across Scotland and England, and has been fortunate to have worked with many orchestras, most notably the Hallé and Synfonia Cymru. He has also found success performing in Chamber music and as a Soloist, having recently just completed a tour of China where he was awarded the 1st prize at the China National Youth Percussion Competition as a member of the RNCM percussion sextet and also the 3rd prize in the Solo Marimba Category at the same comptetion. He is a recipient of the Harriet Cohen Memorial Music Awards Major Award and also the RNCM Gold Medal.
