I’m a busy professional bass player, lucky enough to make a living playing all kinds of gigs in all sorts of places. One week I might be on a big festival stage, the next I’m playing a packed wedding or a late-night bar set, and I genuinely love the variety that comes with it. Last year was a great one. I had the chance to play at Isle of Wight Festival, Truck Festival, and Wilderness Festival, which were all amazing experiences in their own way. There’s nothing quite like playing to a big crowd and feeling that energy, especially when everything locks in with the band and the audience is right there with you. A big part of my work is weddings, and I’ve played hundreds of them over time. They’re always different, which keeps things interesting. You might be learning a first dance, switching styles throughout the night, or reading the room to keep people dancing. It’s a good challenge, and I take a lot of pride in helping make those moments special. I’ve also done more bar gigs than I can count. They can be some of the most fun shows, less polished, a bit more raw, and all about connecting with whoever’s in the room. Those gigs have definitely shaped my playing and helped me develop a solid groove and good instincts on stage. As a bassist, I’d say my biggest strength is being adaptable. I’m comfortable playing pretty much any style, pop, rock, funk, soul, indie, jazz, and I focus on playing what the song needs rather than overplaying. Whether that’s keeping things simple and tight or adding a bit more detail, I’m always listening and locking in with the band. At the end of the day, I just try to be someone people enjoy working with. I turn up prepared, learn the material quickly, and bring a good attitude to every gig.
