About DJ Andrew

"The BBC DJ who discovered Ellie Goulding, Becky Hill & 220 Kid" šŸŽ™ļø Radio Presenter šŸŽ¹ Music Producer/Piano Player šŸŽ§ Club & Festival DJ
DJ
Hereford
Public liability insurance of £10 million

I’ve not only spent most of my life behind the record decks šŸŽ§, I’m proud to be one of the founding fathers of BBC Introducing and have been presenting new music on the BBC ever since šŸ“». I’m also a musician, having played piano and keyboards since the age of 6 šŸŽ¹. I’ve always had an ear for a hit and never fail to get a dancefloor pumping, which is how I became the most-booked DJ in the UK for two years running ⭐. As well as hosting weekly shows on the BBC, I’ve also hosted takeovers with Huw Stephens on BBC Radio 1, Theo Johnson on 1Xtra, outside broadcasts from the Hay Festival with Jo Whiley on BBC Radio 2, and Lakefest at Eastnor Castle on BBC 6 Music. For nearly a decade, I chose every single song you heard on my local BBC station, from breakfast to drivetime, sport to the gardening phone-in! šŸŽ¶. I perform hundreds of shows every year, including dates across Europe šŸŒ, from Ibiza clubs to village halls, French chĆ¢teaux to pub beer gardens, beach parties to in-store gigs, London riverboat cruises to countryside barn dances, woodland retreats to Wookey Hole Caves, summer festivals to Christmas light switch-ons šŸŽ‰. ✨ What makes my DJ sets unique: 1. šŸŽ„ Video DJing – I mix live visuals with the music. Expect music videos, slideshows, animations and effects on big screens for a fully immersive show. While many people may be in love with their 55" flatscreen, I tour with two that are 3 metres wide! 2. šŸŽ¤ Live Musicians – As a musician, I regularly perform with sax, vocals, percussion and even walk the dancefloor playing synths myself. Imagine your favourite anthem performed live on top of a DJ set. I often have conversations with clients who are not sure whether to book a DJ or a band. I'm able to offer the perfect hybrid - performing non-stop, without breaks in the music (and most importantly - in the set) while bringing a combination of singers and musicians on-and-off stage to perform live. Having been at the helm of BBC Music Introducing since 2005, I'm in no shortage of finding the very best talent. 3. ⚔ Signature Sound - Music is my job. I listen to more than 400 new tracks every week, so discovering music isn't something I do in my spare time. It's what I do every day. I call my best discoveries my "secret weapons" - tracks that will blow the roof off any venue. My sets combine floor-filling anthems with hidden gems, alongside my own high-energy mashups, bootlegs and remixes that you won't hear anywhere else. I also carry request cards to keep every event tailor-made. 4. šŸ”Š Festival-Grade Sound & Lighting – From plug-and-play setups to full professional rigs, I can transform any venue into a festival stage. Having spent thousands on the best gear, no two events are the same. For example, my speakers are of festival grade (I actually bought them off the person who does the acoustic stage at Glastonbury!) and my lighting can transform any venue into a dancefloor. ✨ Notable shows šŸŽ™ļø BBC Radio 1 with Huw Stephens 🌓 Ibiza Rocks (multiple shows) šŸ“» BBC Radio 2 with Jo Whiley šŸŽļø The British Grand Prix at Silverstone šŸ”Š BBC Radio 6 Music's Introducing Mixtape šŸŽŖ Lakefest at Eastnor Castle (20,000 people, multiple years) šŸŽšļø BBC Radio 1Xtra with Theo Johnson ā˜€ļø Upton Sunshine Festival (10,000 people, multiple years) šŸš€ Opening set at Nozstock Festival (7,000 people, multiple years) 🌲 Opening set at Into The Woods, Herefordshire (multiple years) šŸŽ¶ Closing set at Wychwood Festival (10,000 people, multiple years) 🤠 Closing set at Rock The Barn, Herefordshire (multiple years) šŸ“Former Residencies šŸŒ™ Scala, London | Naughty But Nice, Hereford | The Kerry, Hereford | Velvet, Worcester | Saxty's, Hereford | The Imperial, Hereford | Jacqueline's, Ross-on-Wye | Monty's, Bromyard | The Griffin, Monmouth ✨ BBC Highlights šŸŽ™ļø Two decades of presenting BBC Introducing, showcasing some of the UK's hottest emerging artists. šŸŽ§ Selects playlist tracks for BBC Radio 1 & 1Xtra. šŸ“» Recommends ā€œones to watch out forā€ for BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 3, BBC 6 Music & BBC Asian Network šŸŽŖ Has chosen artists for: - Glastonbury - Reading + Leeds - SXSW - Radio 1's Big Weekend -T In The Park - The Montreal Jazz Festival - Hay Festival - HowTheLightGetsIn - Worcester Music Festival - Nozstock - BBC Radio 2 Live In Hyde Park - The Great Escape - The Alsager Music Festival - Camp Bestival - Lakefest - The Cheltenham Jazz Festival - The Royal Albert Hall šŸ’¬ Testimonials • ā€œHe’s tireless; he’s like a one man dynamo in the energy he puts in.ā€ - Tom Robinson, BBC Radio 6 Music ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ • ā€œAndrew is one of the most entertaining DJs we’ve had, whether solo or with other musicians. Genuinely great and couldn't recommend more highly - really helpful in communicating up to the wedding, and on the day took our brief perfectly and had everyone dancing. No one wanted it to end! Thank you for a great night!!

Andrew was so friendly on the run up to our wedding and flexible. We had asked if it would be possible to do karaoke at the end of the night and nothing was too much trouble. The guests had so much fun and commented how it was banger after banger. Thanks so much Andrew!

From start to finish, Andrew was responsive, engaged, and determined to make our wedding night incredible. Music is always the most contentious part of any event, you're never going to cater to everyone's tastes. We panicked and created a 7hour playlist, but ultimately encouraged Andrew to use it as influence for our very varied tastes in music, and he smashed it out of the park using initiative and feeling the crowd response. There were even songs remixed with different genres, which were a hit. The performance was great, good crowd engagement, smoke machine, and lighting effects. He'd also advised he could incorporate live piano, but the venue didn't have one - would have loved to see how that turned out. Highly recommend him as your next DJ!

We fell in love with Andrew’s DJ’ing style at my (now) sister in laws wedding and knew we had to have him at ours and we’re so glad we did! He put on a hell of a show and didn’t disappoint.

Andrew was fantastic. To start the communication was great and everything clear and well laid out. After a discussion of an idea of what we wanted played he hit the mark! He read the vibe of the room and my guests and played banger after banger, often tracks I was thinking of requesting. The dancefloor was never empty and I had so many people compliment him. I only wish I had another event to hire him for. A great added touch he came out to the floor and played live keyboard. Made the wedding what it was. Couldn’t have been happier!!!

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

My sets. Most people feel like I've taken on a complete musical journey, not just playing the hits but digging out forgotten classics while introducing them to their new favourite record. For every request, I get people asking me to "write down this song". I'm confident and clear on the mic, happy to interact and I'm not scared of putting on 'a show'!

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

• BBC Radio 1 • BBC 6 Music • Ibiza Rocks, San Antonio • Scala, London (Resident) • Naughty But Nice, Hereford (Organiser/Promoter) • Play, Hereford • Velvet/Tramps, Worcester (Resident) • LakeFest & Big Chill, Eastnor Castle • Upton Sunshine Festival • Nozstock Festival, Bromyard • Wychwood Festival, Cheltenham Racecourse • The Kerry, Hereford (Resident)

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

That is a list that is forever changing! Although I'm proud to say I was the first person to ever play chart-toppers Ellie Goulding, Becky Hill and 220 Kid on the BBC!

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

Those would have to my festival performances, where I'm joined by a singer, rapper, saxophonist and percussionist while I play live synth. I believe it's just as important to visually entertain an audience as well as blessing their ears with incredible sound!

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

Regular work includes broadcasting for the BBC. Therefore anything starting earlier may require me to find cover, so I'll need as much notice as possible. Late events will equally mean I'm not able to take early presentation shifts. Having said that, my regular pricing includes up to 1am with equipment or 2am without, which tends to cover most eventualities!

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

I normally perform from start to finish, no breaks. But if you'd like to run background music before the event begins, I can supply an iPod cable for that very purpose. I would, however, always advise that’s best done by the venue as - in most instances - they’ll have loads of tiny speakers dotted across the venue perfectly balanced for the room.

How much time do you need to set up?

Setup can be as little as the duration of a song. But if you're after full equipment hire (lights/smoke/PA) then you're looking at around an an hour (+30 minutes if transporting equipment up/down stairs). De-rig takes approximately 30-45 minutes.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

I carry request forms with me and I’m happy to take suggestions on the night. Nowadays, I get more people saying ā€œhere’s what we don’t wantā€ than list of what they do! For that reason, requests from joe-public I'll take on merit. Don't worry - if I'm in the middle of a house set with a packed dancefloor, I’m not going to bang the brakes on and play AC/DC!

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

I offer two pricing options - DJ only / DJ + Equipment. My only requirements are 2 plug sockets fairly close to the performance area. Standard setup includes LEDs, lasers and strobe lighting, smoke, 2 x 120" projection screens for special FX, a state-of-the-art sound-system with plenty of clarity and bass, a DJ booth and virtually no visible wiring.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

I am happy to play any genre of music and individual pieces, but please inform me of any rare records in the week leading up to the event.
