Ceithir (pronounced kay-her) are a four-piece ceilidh band based in Glasgow. We bring together our combined experience of Scottish traditional music, folk, jazz and rock to create music that's sure to excite and get you ceilidh-ing in no time! All graduates of the University of Glasgow's prestigious Music course, we pride ourselves in both our professional experience and hassle-free approach to making your event happen with the least fuss possible. And we've taken our ceilidhs well beyond Glasgow... our recent destinations include Preston, Liverpool, Nottingham and North Wales! We come prepared with a full PA system that ensures we sound just right and our dedicated caller can be heard clearly to make your night a success. Even if none of your guests have any ceilidh experience, our dance caller will walk everyone through the steps to ensure everyone can join in with the fun. Our setup takes around 45 minutes, which wastes no time and helps get you and your guests on the dance floor quickly. And you can have peace of mind that all our electrical equipment is PAT tested, and we have Public Liability Insurance up to £10 million. We also offer 2-piece and 3-piece ensembles for those events that need a bespoke solution: we're committed to getting the evening right for you - don't hesitate to let us know what you're after. Ceithir did a fantastic job playing at our wedding. They were helpful and communicative throughout, responding quickly to any queries. They played a fantastic set and did a great job calling, especially for the less experienced dancers. Additionally, many guests went out of their way to mention how good Ceithir were. Would certainly recommend!

We loved having Ceithir playing at our wedding. We had Caelin calling at our welcome party on Friday and then the whole band played on Saturday at our wedding. The band were very professional, easy to communicate with, and made the ceilidh experience really fun for all our guests. We had a mix of guests who were experienced with ceilidh and guests who had never been to on before. The band made sure that their set accommodated all guests very well. Overall an excellent experience. Huge thanks to the band!

The guys were fab: we had them come over to NI for our wedding to play at the evening do! It was lots of fun, the dances were amazing and the calling was great for a mixed Irish/Scottish crowd. Everyone said how much they loved the band! Can’t recommend enough :)

We really enjoyed listening and watching the group yesterday... Please thank them again from me!

What do your clients love most about your performances?

Clients love not just our sound and musicianship, but the way we guide guests through the dances - many of whom have never been to a ceilidh before!

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

We've performed at various venues around Scotland (and slightly further afield!) including Oran Mor, Alexander House near Auchterarder, the Bruntsfield Hotel and even The Forum in Barrow-in-Furness.

Can you perform covers?

Yes, we have a range of instrumental covers we're happy to perform in addition to the traditional Ceilidh music

Do you have different line-up options?

We do - although 'ceithir' means 'four' in Gaelic, we quite often go out as a two-piece of fiddle and guitar, or as three-piece configurations of fiddle, guitar, drums - and even recently swapped out the drums for double bass. If your event or budget requires a smaller, more acoustic line-up then we'd be more than happy to chat through what we can do.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

You can let us know exactly what your requirements are for the night - we can be flexible to some degree so just let us know ASAP if your timings shift.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes - we can play Spotify through our PA between sets and just after we've finished playing to keep the atmosphere alive.

How much time do you need to set up?

We require roughly an 45 mins to an hour to set up properly, and ensure that our system sounds good and is prepped for the dancing to start!

Do you provide a caller?

We absolutely do! Multiple members of Ceithir have experience calling Ceilidhs, so rest assured we come fully capable of directing our dances both clearly and concisely.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

If there's a ceilidh dance or trad tune you'd love to have guaranteed at your event, don't hesitate to ask and we'd be happy to make it work with our set!

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA) included in your quote?

Yes - our quote includes use of our PA, mics, Spotify playback, our instruments; and of course, our charming selves! Our quote also factors in the cost of fuel getting to your gig for one or two cars depending on a multitude of factors.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

If a song or ceilidh dance isn't included in our set list there may still be a chance we already know it. If there is a special song you'd like us to learn we are happy to do this for you. There is a fee of £30 for this service to take into account rehearsal times etc.
