Cecily Smith is a cellist living and working in the North West. She has a keen interest in contemporary music and ideas-sharing within the arts, and enjoys improvising and pairing her voice with the cello. She performs with Dark Inventions, and also regularly performs as part of a cello duo around the North West and Ireland. As an orchestral musician, she has performed with the Hallé, Opera North and Bournemouth Symphony Orchestras. Cecily takes music into healthcare settings, and since 2009 has been training and working in this field at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. She has also trained with Musique et Santé in Paris. She has worked as Mentor and Supervisor on the Medical Notes project at the Children’s Hospital, and is currently developing independent projects at the hospital. She has also worked in community music settings for Jessie’s Fund as an Associate Musician, and had delivered community music workshops for people of all ages and abilities for Street Style Surgery, LIME and Speaking Up Speaking Out. She studied with Emma Ferrand, Douglas Cummings, Susan Sheppard, Peter Adams and Naomi Turner and graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music in 2010 with a 1st class honours degree.
