Benoît André is a composer, sound designer, audio editor, and singer, based in Manchester (UK). He studied both his Bachelor's and his Master's degrees at the Univeristy of Manchester, receiving a First Class Honours and a Distinction, respectively. Here he received the Procter-Gregg Prize for Composition and the P. J. Leonard Prize for Composition (University of Manchester). He is a freelance singer (tenor), and regularly sings with Kantos Chamber Choir. He leads chant at The Manchester Oratory. Benoît's electro-acoustic composition style uses field recordings, analog/digital synthesis, and digital manipulation, often alongside live instrumentalists and singers, to create meaningful musical experiences. His works often specialise in combining vocals with electro-acoustic processes to create pieces that explore subjects such as belonging, the AI-human relationship, and community. His collaborative approach has led to workshops and resultant compositions with ensembles such as the Quatuor Danel, Distractfold, and Somnium Chamber Choir. Benoît also composes for video games and film/theatre. He is currently working as the composer at Keep It Human Studios, a video-game company aimed at building game ecosystems for digital altruism. He has composed for stage productions of plays such as Steven Berkoff's EAST and Michael Frayn's Copenhagen. As well as composing, Benoît works as an audio editor for Choir of the Earth. He has also previously been audio editor for choirs such as Kantos Chamber Choir, Tenebrae, the Hallé Community Choirs, the Univeristy of Manchester Choirs: Ad Solem and the Cosmo Singers, East Oxford Commnity Choir, and more. He is the lead podcast editor for the Exam Study Expert Podcast.
