Originally from Leicester, I grew up in rural Ireland which is where my interest in music-making took off. I studied piano, drum kit, and orchestral percussion while at secondary school in Kinsale, Co. Cork. I played with various local and national bands, ensembles, orchestras, and for amateur musical theatre productions.
I returned to the UK in 2011 to study in London at the Royal Academy of Music. My teachers included:
Andrew Barclay (Principal Percussion, LPO),
Simon Carrington (Principal Timpani, LPO) and
William Lockhart (Principal Timpani, ENO).
Highlights of my undergraduate studies include:
Master-classes with principal players of internationally renowned orchestras such as London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris and Boston Symphony Orchestra.
Performances in major venues including the Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Snape Maltings and the National Concert Hall, Dublin
Working under the baton of conductors Sir Mark Elder, Marin Alsop, Edward Gardner, Yan Pascal Tortelier and Martyn Brabbins
As well as developing an expansive orchestral
repertoire, I also concentrated on World Percussion
techniques and drum kit with Paul Clarvis
(jazz drummer and session musician) and Dave Hassell
(professional drummer and Latin percussionist).
I am now bandleader of Sal-Supremo, a salsa band that has on-going functions in live music bars and venues around London. As a freelance musician I also contribute to the original compositions of disco/funk band High Rise Five, and regularly play with local orchestras and bands in London and Kent.
I have a growing collection of orchestral and world percussion instruments available for gigs, private tuition and workshops.
If you would like further information, to book me as a percussionist, drummer or teacher, or to enquire about the band, Sal-Supremo, please contact me.
