Progressing through the Northamptonshire Music & Performing Arts Trust (where he now teaches), Andy completed his undergraduate degree at Birmingham Conservatoire, studying with Graham Sibley and David Gordon-Shute. Whilst there, Andy sat principal tuba with all the conservatoire ensembles, was a finalist in the brass prize and winner of the Bernard Brown Brass Ensemble prize. As well as gaining a place on the CBSO training scheme, which culminated in performing Belshazzar's Feast with the CBSO under John Wilson's direction, Andy completed an ERASMUS exchange scheme to Leipzig, studying with Bernd Angerhoefer and performing with a professional brass quintet, guest soloist with a brass band and with one of the city's 3 professional orchestras, the Musikalische Komödie. In 2014, Andy was awarded a Master's degree with distinction from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance (generously supported by the Leverhulme Trust) studying with Oren Marshall and George Wall, during which he was awarded a place on a mentor scheme with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and played with the Royal Ballet Sinfonia. Aside from music college, Andy has broadcast live for the BBC, had several solo works composed for him, taken part in a variety of education and outreach work for the CBSO and has played with some of the world's top brass bands.
