Amy Browne

Amy Browne is a Manchester-based electric and upright bass player, with a training in jazz and pop. Her qualifications include MusB in Music (2:1), grade 8 in electric bass and grade 6 in ABRSM music theory. Having graduated from University in July 2025, she is currently freelancing in Manchester and gigging around the North West. Amy has experience playing in both big bands and smaller groups form a young age. Since moving to Manchester, she has become involved in the Manchester music scene, having played venues such as Band on the Wall, Matt and Phreds, The Bread Shed, Feel Good Club and YES itto name a few. She is a stylistically versatile bass player who currently works with acts such as Rachel Burnett, Boo Kickz and jazz group Femme de La Femme, among others. She also does function work, usually background jazz or occasionally 5-piece pop bands, currently regularly gigging at the Grand Pacific and playing in the house band for the jazz jam at Sandbar. Amy also has experience in theatre work, having played in the pit bands for the University of Manchester Musical Theatre Society's productions of The Last Five Years, Alice by Heart and Tick Tick Boom, and currently gigging the amateur circuit in Manchester. She has been involved in amateur productions of 'Come From Away', 'Guys & Dolls' and 'When the Lights Go On Again'. She has also sat in on professional productions of Aladdin and Wicked at the Palace Theatre. Amy had the privilege of serving as the musical director for the Manchester University Big Band during the 2024/25 academic year. This involved running rehearsals and selecting repertoire for the ensemble, which she also played in. The ensemble performs regularly around Manchester, putting on exciting gigs with broad styles of repertoire from classic swingers to 21st century works. Alongside this, Amy has also served as Advertising Manager (23/24) and President (24/25) of Musica Festival, a student-run festival in connection to the Music department and music society at the University that aims to make a positive impact on the gender gap in the music industry.
