About Alice Roberts (Harpist)

Exciting and versatile professional harpist available to hire for weddings, corporate events, solo and orchestral work.
Harpist
Altrincham
Public liability insurance of £1 million

Alice is a professional Mancunion harpist with a deep enthusiasm for music, available for weddings, corporate events, orchestral work and solo performances.
Alice completed her undergraduate degree on the highly competitive and prestigious Manchester ‘Joint Course’, which involves studying for a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Manchester and a graduateship at the Royal Northern College of Music simultaneously. In 2018 she graduated with first class honours in music from the University of Manchester and the following year she was awarded an Upper classification as a Graduate of the RNCM (GRNCM). Whilst studying at Manchester University, Alice was awarded the Procter-Gregg prize in both 2016 and 2018 which is awarded annually to the student with the highest mark for performance. Alice has always had a passion for music and has excelled at the harp from a young age. Prior to joining the RNCM she held a music scholarship at Manchester High School for Girls and became a student at Junior RNCM aged 11, and won numerous prizes including the Chamber Music Prize and the Warburton Music Competition which allowed her the opportunity to perform as a soloist in the Bridgewater Hall. In 2015 she was awarded a Graucob Award for further study.  Alice has a strong interest in contemporary music and frequently works with composers in developing and premiering new works for harp, including a composition for harp and chamber orchestra as part of New Music North West and a collaborative venture involving music and dance. As well as the classical tradition, Alice is passionate about exploring jazz on the harp, and in 2018 travelled to Switzerland to study under acclaimed jazz harpist Park Stickney. In November 2019 she supported the celebrated jazz vocalist and violinist Alice Zawadzki, allowing her the opportunity to perform at London Jazz Festival. She is a founding member of Manchester-based harp duo Rascallity which explores unusual repertoire for two harps, including jazz, latin, and contemporary styles, often through her own arrangements and compositions. An experienced freelance harpist, Alice performs as a soloist across the North West, and also regularly appears with many orchestras. She regularly entertains at both corporate and occasion events and her wide interest in different genres of music means her performances consist of tailor-made music appropriate to any occasion. Skilled in arranging for the harp, Alice is also willing to allow for a particular song request from you.

Customer questions

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

I try to be as flexible as possible, but if you could let me know as soon as your timings change that would be much appreciated.

How much time do you need to set up?

I will usually arrive about an hour before I begin playing for setting up.

Is the transport of your harp included in your quote?

Yes, I will always specify what my travel expenses are and include them in my quote to you.

Do you need any equipment provided to play outdoors?

No equipment needed, but in order to play outdoors I will need a solid flat surface and not grass. Should it be raining on the day I will need full cover of the harp or the harp will need to be placed inside. Hopefully you can appreciate my instrument is expensive and I want to protect it from damage.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

I absolutely encourage picking pieces from my set list! Let me know if you need any advice at all.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

Yes, I am able to arrange specific requests from you for a special song if you would like. Depending how complex and obscure the music is there may be an additional charge of £30 for time spent arranging and learning the piece.

In October last year, I had the pleasure of attending the concert presented by Alice and her colleague at St.James Church, Gatley. The sizeable audience showed their appreciation of the excellent performance which was notable for the varied repertoire, both classical and modern and even some impressive Jazz pieces, a style I had not previously associated with the Harp and which made a lasting impression. This young lady obviously has a very promising career ahead of her.

I have received fantastic feedback from guests after booking Alice for a live performance at a retirement function. She provided the perfect atmosphere for a drinks reception playing two separate sets during the afternoon / early evening. Alice is a very talented harpist and I would highly recommend her for any event. I would not hesitate to book her again. Thank you Alice for making a special occasion more memorable. Completely mesmerising.
