About Alice Roberts (Harpist)

Versatile professional harpist available to hire for weddings, corporate events, solo and orchestral work.
Harpist
Manchester
Public liability insurance of £1 million

Alice is an award-winning Mancunian harpist with a deep enthusiasm for music, available for weddings, corporate events, orchestral work and solo performances. She completed her undergraduate degree on the highly competitive and prestigious Manchester ‘Joint Course’, which involves studying for a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Manchester and a graduateship at the Royal Northern College of Music simultaneously. In 2018 she graduated with first class honours in music from the University of Manchester and the following year she was awarded an Upper classification as a Graduate of the RNCM (GRNCM). During her time as a student at Manchester University, Alice was awarded the Procter-Gregg both in 2016 and 2018, an award offered annually to the student with the highest mark for performance. In correspondence, at the RNCM she won the Graucob award for further study during her time at the junior department, and in 2020 became the first harpist to win the RNCM Gold Medal competition - the highest prize offered for performance at the conservatoire. Alice remains deeply passionate about exploring alternative styles on the harp, and in 2018 she travelled to Switzerland to study under widely acclaimed jazz harpist Park Stickney. Since then, she has collaborated with a large range of musicians including the folk duo ‘Good Habits’, celebrated genre-bending vocalist and violinist Alice Zawadski, and the highly talented jazz-saxophonist Jasmine Myra, for whom she remains a fixture of the band. With Jasmine, she has gone on through various tours to play at many prestigious venues and festivals, including We Out Here festival, Love Supreme festival and multiple performances at Hamburg’s iconic Elbphilharmonie concert hall. In 2021, she joined the band of the leading spiritual jazz artist and producer Matthew Halsall, with whom she records and performs regularly across the UK and internationally. In 2023, she played with Matthew as part of his anticipated album launch tour ‘An Ever Changing View’, which afforded her the opportunity to play at some of the most famous venues in Europe, including Manchester’s New Century Hall, Zurich’s Moods jazz club, Studio 4 inside Brussels’ Flagey building, and London’s Barbican Hall as well as its historic Royal Albert Hall. An experienced freelance harpist, Alice performs as a soloist across the North West, and also regularly appears with many orchestras. She regularly entertains at both corporate and occasion events and her wide interest in different genres of music means her performances consist of tailor-made music appropriate to any occasion. Skilled in arranging for the harp, Alice is also willing to allow for a particular song request from you.

In October last year, I had the pleasure of attending the concert presented by Alice and her colleague at St.James Church, Gatley. The sizeable audience showed their appreciation of the excellent performance which was notable for the varied repertoire, both classical and modern and even some impressive Jazz pieces, a style I had not previously associated with the Harp and which made a lasting impression. This young lady obviously has a very promising career ahead of her.

I have received fantastic feedback from guests after booking Alice for a live performance at a retirement function. She provided the perfect atmosphere for a drinks reception playing two separate sets during the afternoon / early evening. Alice is a very talented harpist and I would highly recommend her for any event. I would not hesitate to book her again. Thank you Alice for making a special occasion more memorable. Completely mesmerising.

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

Previous testimonials have mentioned the soulful, relaxing ambience of the harp. As well as this, I am regularly complimented on the freedom of song choice on a more unusual instrument, including songs from rock, jazz, and pop genres.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

I am lucky enough to have performed as some of the best venues in the UK and abroad, including the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, Germany, Manchester's Bridgewater Hall and New Century Hall, and London's Royal Albert Hall and Barbican Hall.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

I'm always amazed by the understated mastery of musicians like Gillian Welch. As a harpist, I have a real appreciation for artists who can cut incredibly deeply with their music, even though its on the quieter side.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

One of my most memorable gigs was on the slopes of the Acropolis in Athens in an open-air venue called the Odeon of Herodes Atticus performing with the iconic Manchester rock band James. A truly unforgettable experience, although we were all battling the heat at the time!

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

I try to be as flexible as possible, but if you could let me know as soon as your timings change that would be much appreciated.

How much time do you need to set up?

I will usually arrive about an hour before I begin playing for setting up.

Is the transport of your harp included in your quote?

Yes, I will always specify what my travel expenses are and include them in my quote to you.

Do you need any equipment provided to play outdoors?

No equipment needed, but the harp will need to be placed on a hard, flat surface to make sure it won’t be accidentally knocked over, and it cannot be placed on bare grass. Patio flooring or decking would be perfect. I unfortunately can’t play outdoors without cover if there’s risk of rain or high winds due to the possibility of damage to my harp.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

I absolutely encourage picking pieces from my set list! I’m a firm believer in making your wedding as special and meaningful for you and your partner as possible so I’m happy to take your lead on song selection, but if you would like my own song recommendations I am always happy to advise.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

Absolutely, I am able to arrange specific requests from you. I'm eager to make my service as personalised as possible, so I encourage you to let me know if there's a particular song missing from my song list that you would like to hear.
