Verified profile

A multi instrumentalist and composer with decades of experience in providing music for all occasions. I have performed in many different venues and occasions including crematoriums, concert halls, opera houses, at restaurant tables, museums and many, many churches. I don't use backing tracks or beatboxes but I do play with amplification if required. Most of all I really enjoy bringing live music to audiences big and small. Over the years I have been a member of many musical groups including General Union, The William Jones Band, The Welsh Baroque Players and am currently a member of The Arianne String Quartet and The Worried Men of Gower. I am a trained classical musician with a deep understanding and respect for folk and traditional music having studied Ethnomusicology. In addition to the classical viola, I also studied 20th Century composition and bluegrass and Welsh/English/Scottish/Irish fiddle playing.

It usually takes around 15mins for me to set up. I always require a seat and somewhere to store my instrument case and coat, etc.

Yes, absolutely - it's just me, an instrument, music and a music stand.

Alexander was brilliant! He created the perfect atmosphere for our wedding ceremony. He also learnt one of my favourite pieces of violin music for when I walked down the aisle which was wonderful. He played the violin whilst we walked over to our drinks reception (pied piper style) which was magical and many guests said it was their highlight of the whole day! We would definitely recommend Alexander!

Alexander was amazing. How lucky we were to book him for our Burns Night celebrations. He was totally professional but also delightful company and nothing was too much trouble. Everyone loved hearing him play and he was even able to ad lib when people burst into song. We would not hesitate to recommend Alexander and we hope we can book him again.

We booked Alex to play as a duet (him on violin and another member of the quartet on cello) at our awards event. The music, the style and the performance fitted the occasion perfectly. Some of the attendees at the event are, let's say, slightly hard to please, but we had nothing but positive feedback. A wide repertoire and very professional (including turning up at the venue earlier in the day to check over where they were playing). Highly recommended.
