Aileen is a Classical Accordionist currently in her third year of study at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland under the tutelage of Djordje Gajic. Whilst studying in her first year, Aileen was awarded the prestigious Tony and Tania Webster Prize for Rare Russian Music for Keyboard. Most recently, she was awarded the Dunbar-Gerber Prize for Chamber Music performing Gordon McPherson's Stramash for accordion and string trio. This piece was performed in an RCS string showcase which received a 4 star review from The Herald. In March 2016, she performed Piazzolla's Concerto for Bandoneon with orchestra conducted by David Watkin as a finalist of The Edinburgh Festival Concerto Competiton. She also performed Piazzolla's Bandoneon concerto as part of the Milngavie Choir's 40th Anniversary Concert in March 2016. Her other accomplishments in accordion include winning First Prize in the UK Accordion Senior recital 2012 and 2013 and Second Prize in the International Accordion Championship Open solo 2012 and 2013. Aileen has performed as a soloist with The Arezoo Symphony Orchestra at the opening of the Edinburgh Iranian Festival as well as having performed with The Glasgow Philharmonia and The Glasgow Orchestral Society. Enjoying a range of styles, Aileen plays regularly as part of Keep It Reel Ceilidh Band and The Urban Tango Collective. Aileen also has a passion for playing in musicals and has played accordion for a number of productions such as Cabaret and Fiddler on the Roof as well as playing piano for productions of Les Miserables, The Wizard of Oz, Bugsy Malone and The Wedding Singer. Aileen has a keen interest in composition and studies under Dr Gordon McPherson at the Conservatoire. Her works have been performed by The Red Note Ensemble as part of the Noisy Nights events. Aileen teaches at The RCS Early Years classes, Lomond School and Hillhead Primary School as well has having private pupils.
