About Jen

I’m a multi genre and multi passionate pianist with a wide repertoire and a specialism in sight reading.
Pianist
Menai Bridge
Public liability insurance of £10 million

I have always been a musician. With perfect pitch and able to read music from the age of three, I picked up the recorder, violin at age four, and formally piano from age seven. I was in orchestras as a violinist and later viola player between the ages of nine-eighteen, but my passion was always with the piano. I loved being part of ensembles, especially a jazz band during my sixth form, but I always had stage fright when it came to solo performance, However I did achieve a merit in my grade 8 piano exam at the age of seventeen. In my late 20s, I was diagnosed with generalised anxiety disorder and every missed opportunity and reason to be invisible started to make sense. It took until lockdown in my mid 30s where I found a way out of that disorder through deep self development. Here I was able to lose my need for perfectionism, and my extreme fear of judgement, and start to build my brand. I set up as a private piano tutor in 2016, but struggled to be heard amongst the competition. Emerging as the Tropic Pianist Gamer in late 2021, I had built a (quiet) reputation of being a patient, understanding and relatable piano tutor, but I was still lacking any portfolio as a performer to speak of. In my online community that I'd started up in lockdown, I was able to build my confidence online step by step. In 2022 I started taking more requests. My specialism is sight reading, so I wanted to challenge myself. 2023 is the year I want to get out there as the pianist I was always meant to be. Nothing is holding me back now, and although my portfolio is nearly all from my studio at home, it shows what I'm able to do as a performer. I love inspiring and entertaining people through the magic of music. I inspire through both teaching and performing. I also love accompanying instrumentalists, so would love to get some experience that way too. Would love to hear from you!

“In a real ‘first’, Jen gave myself and my husband the opportunity to request a song to be played in her live Christmas concert, which felt super-special. In the busyness of the festive season, it was a delight to be able to take some time out and come together with others to listen to Jen’s performance as we united virtually around her piano. Sharing her practice notes and insights with her social media followers over the weeks leading up to the concert helped to create a real sense of anticipation. I felt really invested in the event by the time it arrived, and so very proud of Jen for her hard work and commitment to pull it off. The songs she chose personally were well balanced with the requests she received – creating a really cheering playlist that said: ‘Christmas has arrived!’ I cannot recommend Jen more highly as an entertainer who truly cares about her audience, pushes through her anxieties to role model courage for others, and is an expert at her piano craft."

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

They love that I'm real, confident and genuine. I care about my audience, and am attentive and inspiring.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

This year, my goal is to get out more in person, and play different pianos. Before lockdown I suffered from severe anxiety, so was lacking a portfolio. I've played at Penrhyn Castle (Bangor), Victoria Hotel (Menai Bridge) for a wedding (2018), Tre-ysgawen Hall (2019, Christmas) and Chateau Rhianfa (Menai Bridge) from 2023

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

I love the simplicity of Einaudi's easy listening music. I love the intricacy of Bach's music, the colours of Brahms and Schubert, but I also love Disney, film music and particularly Koji Kondo's Music (Video Games/Nintendo) I love pop music too: Coldplay, Queen, Abba, Ed Sheeran, Harry Styles, and lots more!

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

I am flexible as much as I can be. As long as you let me know with enough notice, I should be able to accommodate the change of timing.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

If requested, I can bring a bluetooth speaker with spotify to play between sets.

How much time do you need to set up?

If there is already a piano in the venue, then I just need 5 minutes to unpack and get seated at the piano. If I have to bring my own equipment, then I'd require 30-60 minutes to set up depending on setting.

If I have a piano at my venue, are you happy to perform on that?

Definitely! As long as it's in good working order, and in tune I'd be delighted to play it!

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

You can request whatever you want, and if I can acquire it/it's feasible for the time frame then I will endeavour to deliver. Ideally give me a genre or theme to work with, and I will tailor a set list to meet your requirements.

Are you able to bring your own piano or keyboard?

Yes I have a full size weighted keyboard with specialised amplifier for the full experience.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

Yes, as long as I can acquire the sheet music, and it's feasible for the time frame I can learn it. There will be a fee of £30 if it's a completely new piece.
