Sphere Jazz Collective

Sphere Jazz Collective have been together since 2016. Originally called The Nikki Turner Jazz Quartet (NTJQ for short), we renamed the group after our vocalist Nikki got married and changed her surname. We began our gigging career with a regular gig (every 3 months) at an independent cafe for about 5/6 years. Audience members who saw us there then invited us to perform at their birthdays, functions and even their care homes! We've also performed at a British Legion Tea Party Event and Jubilee Celebrations in a Village in Lancashire. The core members are Nikki Swierczynski on vocals and Helena Summerfield on Woodwind. Nikki & Helena both have Music Degrees and both work full time as professional musicians. We’ve dedicated our lives to studying, performing and working in Music. Alongside being a performer Nikki has worked as a Musical Director for 3 different musicals, coaching vocals and performing in the pit on Keys. Nikki teaches Piano and Vocals and has extensive experience working in Music education. Helena plays Flute, Clarinet and Alto Saxophone, she has an amazing and prolific career and is well known in the North West Jazz scene. Helena will always play her Saxophone on gigs, and will bring the Flute & Clarinet to add a bit of variety on specific songs. Clarinet goes well on Trad Jazz numbers like 'Ain't Misbehavin' Flute works great on our Latin numbers like 'Sway'. Helena works for Jazz North, and is heavily involved in a project called ' Jazz Camp for Girls'. We are both educators as well as performers and have a passion for all things music related! We can perform on a small scale as a Duo with Nikki accompanying herself on keys, while Helena plays sax. Or you can choose a larger line up such as a Quartet (Vox, Keys, Bass, Sax) or a Quintet (Vox, Keys, Bass, Sax, Drums). Depending on your requirements we will then book professional musicians to work with us on Drums, Double Bass or Electric Bass and Keys. We have our go to people that we regularly use, and other musicians we can call upon if our regulars aren’t available. If you have a preference for Double Bass rather than Electric Bass let us know and we'll make sure we book a Double Bassist. We’d love to be the group to make your event sparkle.
