Lorna is a fourth year undergraduate mezzo soprano under the tutelage of Jane Irwin at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. In 2014 she won the German Lieder, English Song and Vocal Recital categories at the Alderley Edge Music Festival, and in 2016 she won the RNCM Elsie Thurston Prize. Lorna's operatic experience includes the role of Suora infermiera in Puccini's Suor Angelica, the world premiere of the role Esther in Adam Gorb's The Path to Heaven, Phoebe in scenes from Gilbert and Sullivan's Yeoman of the Guard and Third Boy in scenes from Mozart's Die Zauberflöte. She has also sung with Longborough Festival Opera Chorus in Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice and the RNCM Opera Chorus in Offenbach's La Vie Parisienne and Handel's Theodora . In spring 2019 she will be covering the role of Shining One in Vaughan Williams' The Pilgrim's Progress. On the concert platform, Lorna has sung in Vivaldi’s Gloria, Mozart’s Requiem, Duruflé’s Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle, Bach’s B Minor Mass, Bach's Magnificat and Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater. In 2018, Lorna sang at Leeds Lieder Festival as part of the composers and poets forum, and in 2019 she performed in a recital of Norwegian song in Bergen. She is also a member of the RNCM Songsters, and performs regularly in external concerts and masterclasses. Lorna has extensive choral experience, having sung with many choirs around the UK. She is an alumnus of the 2013 - 2014 Genesis Sixteen programme, run by Harry Christophers and Eamonn Dougan from The Sixteen. She currently sings with Kantos Chamber Choir, the BBC Radio 4 daily service singers and is a deputy lay clerk at Manchester Cathedral. Alongside her studies at the RNCM, Lorna enjoys bouldering, baking cakes and playing the flute. Lorna was principal flute in the Hallé Youth Orchestra and the National Youth Wind Ensemble of Great Britain before commencing her vocal studies at the RNCM.
