I began to take the piano seriously at around 12 years of age. My parents were both pianists, and my father played professionally. I spent the early years studying classical which I believe is essential for a good technique. I soon realised though, my real passion was for arranging and improvisation, and, I discovered that in my opinion, the best pianists were distinctive, and could be easily recognised by just listening to a few bars of their music. Whenever I'm booked to play; whether it be to accompany a vocalist, background restaurant or play for a wedding, I enjoy giving my own interpretation and arrangements of the songs everybody knows. I have been fortunate to earn a living as a pianist since leaving school, and even attained a rolling contract with a large hotel chain which gave me a residency lasting 20 years! During Covid 19, when most of the work dried up, I utilised the time to record, improve my technique further, and teach advanced improvisation online. As well as piano performance, I also developed my own all-round act involving singing, comedy, and playing the ukulele-banjo, which I spent many years performing to audiences of all ages. This gave me useful insight into what works best, and giving me the ability to quickly adapt to the audience/situation that I'm playing for.
