Holly May Violin

My name is Holly May and I originally took lessons for violin when I was a child but never was too interested and eventually quit. I found my passion for playing when I saw a couple of violinists online playing pop music and this taught me that I can learn to play any song on this instrument and not just the expected repertoire for violin. Since this, I self taught myself for a couple of years and then took up online lessons during the pandemic for classical training. However, I still continue to learn and play all of my pop covers by ear. I started street performing on my 14th birthday and still love the spontaneous atmosphere of it! One of the highlights of my career so far is being personally selected by Sir Elton John to win his ‘Cold Heart Cover Competition’ a couple years back and as the prize got to watch to his concert in Barcelona. Elton John is my favourite artist and I was (and still am) so thrilled! I am based in North Yorkshire and have played at some lovely unique events, festivals and weddings in the area however I have also played my violin all around the world including places such as promenades and venues in Ibiza to Santa Monica, California. I always love getting to perform in new places! During my travels, I also love to meet up with fellow musicians I have met online and collaborate together on duets. I started my channel when I first started playing again and self teaching to document my progress and now I post my street performances and covers. Over the past few years I gained over 5 and a half million views. Some of my favourite songs to perform are ‘Listen To Your Heart’ by Roxette, ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’ by Queen and ‘Take On Me’ by a-ha. Although I love playing many genres and decades from 80s rock and nowadays pop to Elvis Presley and The Beatles. I enjoy learning new songs and requests for specific events, especially for the bride to walk down the aisle to their special song.
