Helen is a freelance conductor, pianist and organist and works regularly with a broad range of choirs including the Choir of St Mary Merton, where she is Director of Music. Helen recently completed her MA at the Royal Academy of Music studying Choral Conducting with Patrick Russill, graduating in July 2013 with the Alan Kirby Prize. During her time at RAM she participated in masterclasses with groups including the BBC Singers, London Oratory Choir and Royal Academy of Music Chamber Choir. Helen grew up in East London, starting piano lessons aged five. Soon after she joined her first choir, Highbury Young Singers (where she is now Assistant Director) performing in venues such as the Queen Elizabeth Hall and at the London Jazz Festival. She later won a music scholarship at Francis Holland School, Clarence Gate where she began accompanying and conducting and in her final year, organ lessons. Helen went on to study Music at Cambridge, winning an Organ Scholarship to Peterhouse where she conducted and accompanied the Choir during twice-weekly services in the College chapel. During her time at Cambridge she played and conducted in numerous British cathedrals including Gloucester, Canterbury and Lincoln cathedrals and Westminster Abbey, studying with David Sanger and William Whitehead. Helen is currently Organist and Director of Music at St Mary the Virgin, Merton Park SW19, where she conducts and accompanies the Choir of trebles and men. She is also the Assistant Musical Director of children's choir Highbury Young Singers, regularly preparing the group for productions with Highbury Opera Theatre, and is Musical Director of youth choir Middle Ground. She is active as a freelance conductor, organist and accompanist in London. Helen was the 2013-2014 Junior Fellow of the Joyful Company of Singers and is on the founding board of the Voices of London Festival, a week-long festival of choral music held at St James' Sussex Gardens.
