The Franco-British cellist, Florence Petit, is in demand as an innovative young soloist, with a regular programme of solo recitals throughout the UK. She is a laureate of several European competitions, including the Concours des Zonta Clubs de France, and the recipient of a number of awards and prizes including grants by the Lynn Foundation, Saint Jude’s Trust and the Denne Gilkes Memorial Foundation. She works with the acclaimed Franco-Taiwanese pianist Lysianne Chen, and is a founding member of the Leben String Quartet. Florence is passionate about discovering unusual and neglected chamber repertoire for cello and exploring interesting and unusual instrumental pairings. With this in mind, Florence formed Duo Dekacord with guitarist Elias Sibley. As an orchestral musician, she performs extensively with chamber and symphony orchestras across Europe, most recently with the English National Opera. Florence is also passionate about sharing music with children, teaching cello and piano privately and in schools. She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree from the Royal College of Music with First Class Honours and was generously supported by the Raphael Sommer Fondation during her studies. Florence is currently completing her Master of Performance Degree from the RCM, studying with Alexander Chaushian. In addition to her studies as a cellist, Florence is a keen practitioner of Historical Performance, studying baroque cello with Richard Tunnicliffe. She has performed alongside Colin Lawson, Ashley Solomon and Vittorio Ghielmi and has received masterclasses and coaching from Jonathan Manson and Adrian Butterfield, amongst others.
