About Emily

Emily is a cellist based in the south of the UK, performing classical, jazz and pop with backing tracks and PA for weddings and events.
Cellist
Brighton
Public liability insurance of £10 million
Verified profile

Both cellist and composer, performing Solo Cello for weddings and events with backing tracks and PA, she also composes and records production music for tv and radio, and is a freelance cellist with orchestras, solo artists and the Brighton Cello Quartet, as well as recording in studios in Brighton and London. Trained at the Royal Academy of Music, and now a professional for over 15 years, she has extensive experience performing at prestigious venues, concerts, recitals, weddings and studio recordings. Her self-contained solo set-up enables her to play for a wide range of events whilst providing a beautiful accompaniment for any occasion. A highly suitable live music option for post-Covid weddings due to being a solo, string instrument, Emily has weddings continuing throughout 2021 for clients who want to go ahead, adhering to the current restrictions. Backing tracks are carefully selected to ensure the highest levels of taste and quality for classical, jazz and pop, many of them her own arrangements used for broadcast on radio and tv. She uses a high quality PA and can also amplify the cello if greater projection is needed. For most weddings and smaller receptions the acoustic cello with tracks is sufficient. From classical favourites such as Pachelbel, Handel, Beethoven and Elgar, to jazz favourites of Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Bernstein and Gershwin; from Cyndi Lauper, Sting and Robbie Williams to Clean Bandit, Ed Sheeran, Ellie Goulding and Jess Glynne, there is music to suit all tastes from Emily's warm, expressive cello tones. Performing freelance with various orchestras she is also a member of the Brighton Cello Quartet, and The Celli Quartet based in London, who perform at prestigious venues such as the V&A, the Tower of London, House of Commons, British Museum, Selfridges and many more. Her composing and recording of production music has seen use on BBC1, BBC Radio 4, BBC Worldwide documentaries, and film trailers. Recordings are with Sync Music, Music Gateway and Arms Production Music. She also records for various singers and artists based in Brighton ranging from folk, pop and indie to electronic music. Venues performed at as the SoloCello act for weddings and events include: One Blackfriars; Greenwich Royal Observatory; Firle Place; Field Place; Brighton Pavilion; The Grand Hotel, Brighton; The Mercure; Jury's Inn; Mal Maison; The Old Ship; Brighton Town Hall; The Ravenswood; Old Kent Barn; Ghyll Manor; Dean's Place; Cisswood House; Cissbury Barns; Buealieu Domus; Winchester Guildhall; i360; East Sussex National Hotel; Buxted Park Hotel; Sussex Barns; Farbridge barns and many others.

Absolutely breathtaking! Emily was the perfect addition to our wedding reception. Her vibrant collections of songs (from classics Disneys to bollywood) have truly succeeded to create an astonishing magical atmosphere. We received so many compliments from our guests about the music, and it made our special day even more unforgettable. I can certainly say the performance was sublime and truly worthy of appraisal. Thank you very much for your effort.

Emily played our wedding ceremony and drinks reception in Clock Barn, Hampshire. She has a wide & varied portfolio we could choose from and was very patient in helping us decide which songs would work well during the walk-in, signing of the register, and walk out. She even learnt a new piece to play for our walk-out song, and answered many questions leading up to the big day - definitely helped reduce the wedding-planning stress. On our wedding day Emily played beautifully, we had many complements from our guests on the great choice of musician. We couldn't be happier, we would highly recommend Emily and hope we are able to book her time for future special occasions!

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

All of my clients have been extremely happy with their bookings, the most frequent phrases being 'it was so beautiful' and 'you were amazing, thank you!'. With a stunning sound on this versatile and expressive instrument, people are delighted by the range from classic Elgar to their favourite Clean Bandit track, all performed with utmost professionalism.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Firle Place, MalMaison, Field Place, Charterhouse, Old Thorns, The Ravenswood, Mercure, Winchester Guildhall, Brighton Pavilion, Jury's Inn, Rusper Church, Cissbury House, Stanmer House, East Sussex National, Farbridge Barns, Beaulieu Domus, Old Kent Barn, Buxted Park Hotel, Old Ship Hotel, V&A, British Museum, House of Commons, Westminster Abbey and more.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Wow, that's a tricky one...as a musician working for many years and starting my musical education at the age of 6, there are too many great musicians to name that have spurred me on to share this amazing thing that is music...Beethoven to Dave Brubeck, Shostakovich to Sheku, Gerswhin to Jess Glynne, I love them all.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

As a cellist would it be with the orchestra of Sir Elton John at the Royal Opera House, recording on an orchestral film soundtrack at Air studios, or having my cello tracks used by BBC trailers, Flog It, Countdown to Chelsea Flower Show, and even The One Show...

Do you have different line-up options?

This line-up is for a solo cello with PA and backing tracks. Please contact me if you wish to have a duo, trio or cello quartet, as this can be arranged.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

I aim to be flexible to your needs, and some timing changes can be accommodated within the booking fee, but for a significantly longer booking there may be an increase in price.

How much time do you need to set up?

I usually only take 15-20 minutes to set up, but aim to arrive at least 1 hour before the agreed start time to get this ready in advance.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

A set list can be provided in advance for you to highlight and send back if you would like to choose your music. Alternatively, you can simply specify 'I'd like more classical/jazz/pop' and I will tailor a set to your preferences. Otherwise a range can be provided from each genre.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Yes, I bring the PA, and all equipment needed to perform. I will need a chair from the venue, and if required to perform outside, a small gazebo or large parasol for shade.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

Yes, this can be arranged for a small extra fee of £40 to get the piece and backing track ready.
