Chris is a busy freelance flute player and teacher, involved in solo recitals, chamber music and orchestral playing. Upcoming events include performing with: the Central England Ensemble; Amadeus Orchestra; and performing solo recitals across the South West including at music festivals in Saltford & Keynsham. Whilst studying for his BMus Degree at the Birmingham Conservatoire, Chris studied flute and piccolo under renowned flute players including: Marie-Christine Zupancic; Jonathan Rimmer; Judith Hall; Diane Clark; and Andrew Lane. He performed regularly as part of all of the main conservatoire orchestras and ensembles including the: Symphony Orchestra; Opera Orchestra; and Jazz Orchestra. Chris also participated in masterclasses taken by players including: Marie-Christine Zupancic, Karen Jones, Katherine Baker and Roland Sutherland. Outside of the Conservatoire, Chris has performed as part of: the 'Sunday Classics' concert series at The Spotted Dog in Digbeth; and at St Paul's Church in the Jewellery Quarter. Prior to studying at the Birmingham Conservatoire, Chris was a student of Nicky Russell LRAM. Under her tutelage he organised his own concert series at: St Anne's Church in Oldland Common; passed both his Grade 8 flute exam and ATCL Performance Diploma with distinctions; and has been a regular player at Holy Trinity Church in Westbury-on-Trym and St Stephens Church in Bristol. Chris has also performed for many orchestral projects; and has been a member of the CBSO Youth Orchestra. He has performed under the baton of renowned conductors including: Sian Edwards, Alexander Verdernikov, Margaret Faultless, Edwin Roxburgh, Andrew Litton and Michael Seal. Chris has performed in venues such as: Birmingham Town Hall; Symphony Hall; Adrian Boult Hall; and Colston Hall, Bristol. Chris also enjoys traditional music and has strong links to 'Joe Broughton’s Conservatoire Folk Ensemble'; with whom he has performed across the country for a multitude of high-profile events. These events include: Music for Youth Festivals; the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay; Fairports Cropredy Convention; Shambala Festival; and Towersey Festival, playing to tens of thousands of people. Chris is an active educator as well as a performer, and has been teaching the flute privately for many years. He has been offered a self-employed flute instructor position with SIS-7; teaching the flute to the Qatari Armed Forces. He has also worked alongside experienced music teachers from South Gloucestershire Music Service. Chris has a relaxed and fun approach to teaching, allowing his students to work at a pace that is right for them, whilst maintaining a strong personal practise ethos. He says: ‘I feel strongly that every person should have the opportunity to learn an instrument and be happy doing so. To that end, I offer a free consultation lesson to make sure that I am the right teacher for you.’ Chris currently plays on a beautifully hand-crafted flute made for him by Stephen Wessel with equally beautiful hand-crafted head joint by Tobias Mancke.
