Aleksandra Henszel

Aleksandra is a flautist and winner of many awards and prizes, including The Musicians’ Company Lambert Scholarship, Patricia Prindl Prize and The Countess of Munster Derek Butler Award. As a classical soloist, chamber and orchestral musician she has performed at some of Europe’s most famous concert halls including the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Konzerthaus Berlin and the Royal Albert Hall. She also performs with a band Narnain where she gets to fulfill her passion for traditional, folk and world dance music. Aleksandra enjoys a busy freelance career, giving solo and chamber music recitals at venues such as King’s Place and Southbank Centre, as well as working with orchestras nationally and internationally, including the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra (Germany), Arensky Chamber Orchestra and The NGF Orchestra (Italy). Her band Narnain has performed at venues across Europe, from Scotland to Greece. Keen educator, Aleksandra has recently visited Chile as a Guest Professor at Flute Festival in Penalolen, Santiago and given over 50 music workshops at London schools as part of her Young Artist Scheme work at The Musicians' Company. She has worked closely with the BBC Learning Department delivering family workshops at BBC Proms, performed at the 'Singing for the Brain' event organised by Alzheimers UK at the 7,000 seat Copper Box Arena and took part in delivering an award-winning project 'Convo', culminating with a performance involving professional musicians and over 1100 London school children. Aleksandra also works as a flute & Folk Ensemble tutor in West London. Graduate of the Royal College of Music London and Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Aleksandra's formal musical training began at the age of seven in her hometown Szczecin, Poland. By the age of nine she received the City of Szczecin Artist Scholarship, the highest accolade in her region and ten years later started her professional career in the UK. Whilst still a student, she took the Principal Flute seat for a RCS/BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra project which culminated in recording and broadcast of works by Stravinsky on BBC Radio Scotland and took part in an El Sistema Scotland project with Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra and Gustavo Dudamel. She also had the pleasure to perform in the Principal Flute seat at a Gala concert with singers from Opera Australia at Buckingham Palace, organised by Prince Charles in 2015. In her spare time, Aleksandra enjoys swing dancing, charcoal drawing, hill walking and learning languages.
