Cellist based in London studying at the Royal Academy of Music. Member of the Kirkman Quartet.
Born in 1997, Yurie Lee began playing the cello at the age of five, studying with Lara Moore. She joined the Primary department of the Royal Academy of Music aged 8 and was awarded a scholarship to study at the Junior department. She was taught by Bozidar Vukotic for a year before moving on to Heather Harrison. She has also been given a scholarship to study at Senior Academy with Jo Cole (Head of Strings). Yurie made her concerto debut this year with The Latymer School Symphony orchestra with Schumann's Cello Concerto which was followed by another performance with The Junior Academy Symphony Orchestra. She has given solo and chamber music recitals at venues such as St-Martin- in-the-Fields, Wigmore Hall and Cardiff Millennium Stadium. She enjoys playing Chamber and Orchestral music and has been a member of the National Youth Orchestra of GB, the Orion Orchestra and the London Graduate Orchestra. She has received solo and chamber masterclasses from Mario Brunello, Sung Won Yang, David Strange, Jo Cole, James Boyd, Aaron Minsky, The Allegri Quartet, The Lawson Trio and The Maggini Quartet as well as masterclasses abroad with Colin Carr at Academie Musicale De Villecroze, Enrico Bronzi at the Salzburg Mozarteum Universität Sommer Akademie and Peter Bruns in Madrid Forum Musikae. In 2015 she recorded alongside the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra as part of the BBC 10 pieces project. She is currently the cellist of the Kirkman Quartet founded in late 2016 and with whom she has been awarded a place on the Davey Posnanski Scheme at the Royal Academy of Music. Yurie plays on a Hardie Cello kindly on loan from the Royal Academy of Music.
