Yunuscan Kaya

Yunuscan Kaya was born in Ankara, Turkey, in 1990. He began his piano education in childhood with Nuriye Arıkan, an esteemed instructor at Hacettepe University State Conservatory. During this period, he gave several recitals at various private music venues. In 2014, he graduated from the Department of Musicology at Hacettepe University State Conservatory. His graduation thesis focused on the piano transcriptions of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony. Kaya concentrated particularly on piano adaptations of existing musical works and produced what are considered the world’s first piano arrangements of certain lesser-known church organ works by J. S. Bach. In addition, he performed numerous recitals featuring his own solo piano arrangements of Beatles songs. In 2012, he founded the Queen tribute band “A Kind of Vision” (Freddie Mercury Show) and became the band’s lead vocalist. Conceived as a theatrical concert performance, the Freddie Mercury Show has been staged in many cities across Turkey to great audience acclaim. After meeting renowned actress Ayçe Abana, Kaya began composing music for theater and entered the theatrical world as the musical director of “Veronika’nın Dünyası” (adapted from Paulo Coelho’s Veronika Decides to Die). He later collaborated with celebrated Turkish playwright Kandemir Konduk and worked with the theater company Tiyatro Kedi. Together with Ayçe Abana, he created the project “Broad-sense: Hayatımız Müzikal Olsa,” through which they have performed numerous concerts featuring selections from musicals and film scores. In 2020, Kaya released his solo piano album “Butterfly,” consisting entirely of his original compositions. His latest piano album, “Rainish,” was released in 2025. He currently resides in the United Kingdom with his wife, Ayçe Abana.
