Will Henderson currently studies double bass at the Royal Academy of Music under the tuition of Graham Mitchell, Dominic Seldis & Tom Goodman. Before starting at RAM in 2014 Will studied at Chetham’s School of Music (2012-2014), gaining the Ida Carroll Scholarship under the tuition of Yi Xin Salvage.
As an experienced orchestral player, Will plays in various orchestras and ensembles, regularly playing with the Royal Academy of Music Symphony & Chamber Orchestra, as well as many orchestras in and around London, including the De Havilland Philharmonic Orchestra & SON. Will was also a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain (2014). Will’s orchestral playing has taken him to many prestigious venues including the Royal Festival Hall, Cadogan Hall, Bridgewater Hall, Symphony Hall Birmingham, Barbican and Royal Albert Hall. Over the years, Will has also had the pleasure of working with many of the world’s leading conductors including; Marin Alsop, Ed Gardner, Mark Elder, Francois Xavier Roth & Semyon Bychkov to name but a few. Will is excited to be returning to the Royal Festival Hall in June, where he will be playing Mahler 2 under the baton of Semyon Bychkov.
As well as an accomplished orchestral player, Will is an experienced pit player on both double bass and bass guitar. his recent shows include; West Side Story, Ragtime, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Carousel & Sweeney Todd to name but a few. Will is also a comfortable member of various chamber ensembles, having played with Epiphany ensemble, Chamber Music in Little Venice and Bach's ‘coffee cantata’. Earlier this year Will also became a member of the Sicilius quintet. Although newly formed the quintet already have many regular engagements, having played with renowned soloists including Andres Gabetta, Alexander Romanovsky and Mario Stefano Pietrodarchi. Will is greatly looking forward to multiple concerts in Italy this August with the quintet.
Session work has led to Will featuring on various computer games and CD’s. His playing has also led to multiple television & radio appearances, namely in the 2014 BBC Proms, and a documentary about Orchestre Symphonique Kimbanguiste 'Congo calling, A black orchestra in Britain'.
