We had a great night with Terry, Biggles and the Whirligig band. Biggles the caller coped with our incredible ineptitude at many of the dances with very good humour, just as well as we were crying with laughter, and very proud of ourselves when we got it right. This was a great night.

Anna and Will: “Thank you so much for yesterday. We absolutely loved having you play for us and thoroughly enjoyed the ceilidh despite the chaos caused by many under 8s! You all sounded fabulous and we will definitely pass your name on to anyone who is interested in booking a ceilidh”.

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

We are unusual in that we are able to play other genres of music. So we can perform songs during breaks between dances to compliment or contrast with the traditional dances. In addition, if time and plans allow, we can play a few upbeat songs for some more "freestyle" dancing.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Various country shows and festivals including Ely Folk Festival, venues including a Dutch barge, any number of village halls, marquees, historic country mansions, medieval barns, specialist wedding venues, churches, hotel ballrooms, country clubs and a railway station!

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Dubliners, Beatles, Moving Hearts, Dervish, Runrig, The Pogues, Capercaillie, Planxty, Fairport Convention, The Eagles, Crosby StilIs and Nash and numerous talented Irish and Scottish Session Musicians.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

Over the years we have played for some great events. Recently Ely Folk Festival, an annual barn dance in Great Yarmouth with over 600 guests & up to 150 dancers! However most are just for lovely people who are getting married, celebrating a lifetime of marriage, significant family birthdays or for no other reason than just a bit of fun, laughter & dancing

Can you perform covers?

Yes, we certainly can! Unlike many Ceilidh Bands, we have a range of modern and traditional songs including those listed elsewhere that we're happy to perform in addition to the music for ceilidh dancing.

Do you have different line-up options?

Our standard line up is Mandolin/Octave Mandolin, Guitar/Fiddle, Bass, Drums and caller for the dances. We can perform without drums or percussion but it makes the ceilidh music a bit more difficult for the dancers to tune in to so a bit less fun for dancing.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

We try to be as flexible as possible to help ensure the event runs smoothly but please let us know as soon as possible if you wish to change timings.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Absolutely. This is a really popular request and we actually offer this service for free. If you wish to use our PA before we start for speeches or after the final set until the venue closes, we can usually help with this for a small additional fee.

How much time do you need to set up?

We usually set up about 1 to 1.5 hours before the performance time. As soon as our PA is set up we can provide a background playlist to help set the atmosphere and get your guests ready for our live performance.

Do you provide a caller?

Yes we have a highly experienced dedicated caller as part of our band. By dedicated we mean that the caller is not normally performing with the band so will be on the dance floor to demonstrate and often lead or join in the dancing. With a huge emphasis on fun, they will adapt all the dances specifically to suit the ability and agility of those taking part.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

Our set lists are crafted from countless performances and learning what works best to ensure guests dance and have an amazing time. However, we're definitely happy to chat through and make sure we find what works for your event.

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA) included in your quote?

Our PA and stage lighting system is included in your quote. We usually require a space of 5 metres by 3 metres space for our equipment and to perform.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

If a particular song isn't included in our song list there may still be a chance we already know it. If there is a special song that fits with our style of playing we may be able to add it to our repertoire for you.
