About Westside Jukes

The best Funk, Soul, Disco & Jazz Funk Experience in London with a premium soundsystem.
Soul & Motown band
Public liability insurance of £1 million

Who Are We? - Westside Jukes play the very best funk, soul and jazz-funk floor-fillers from the '60s and '70s. If you're looking for something a little different to the standard function bands, check out our live videos - no overdubs, no click track, no editing out the mistakes, just us performing great songs we really love - what you see is what you get. We've posted a couple of recent videos from recent rehearsals - Hard To Handle and Papa's Got A Brand New Bag - with more to come soon featuring our amazing sax player, Lynne. This is a new band from the guys who brought you Ruby & The Dukes (see our 11 x 5 Star reviews on Encore) and we've just uploaded to Encore our latest live promo videos of 6 funky and soulful classics. We principally play out as a six-piece (singer, sax, keys, guitar, drums & bass), but we can also perform as an instrumental quintet/quartet or trio if required and, for larger events and budgets, additional musicians (brass section, percussion, backing singers etc). See our audio section for examples of the 4-piece instrumental band. We provide a top quality RCF & Soundcraft sound system for venues up to 200 people and a Sound Engineer where required. For larger events we work with trusted partners to deliver the best audio experience possible for your budget. If you have engaged the services of an Event Manager for your event, you can put us in touch with them directly and leave everything up to us so you can concentrate on having a great event. Q & A - Q - Do you do discounts? A - Ordinarily no, as we are all professional musicians and this is our livelihood but from the 1st July 2021 until 30th November 2021 Westside Jukes will be lowering our fees by a whopping £400 to make things easier for everyone planning a celebration coming out of lockdown. That means you get the full 7-piece band and professional service for £1450 until the end of November 2021! Q - Do you have a standard price? A - As every event is different and involves different set times, travel etc, each booking is priced individually, but our standard price is £1850 for 2 x 1 Hour Sets with the 6-piece band within 25 miles of our base in Chiswick, West London. Q - Will you play any songs that aren't in your song list? A - Yes, we will learn and play two songs, (songs to be agreed), at no extra cost. This is great if you have a particular Wedding Song that you want or similar and we have all done this many times so please ask if you have something special in mind. Q - How far will you travel and how much will you charge? A - We use two vehicles normally - one for equipment and one for the band - and will travel up to 25 miles from our West London base at no additional charge. From 25-75 miles will cost £0.45 per mile and for return journeys over 200 miles accommodation for the band will also be necessary. Nothing fancy required, but the band gives great, energetic performances and driving long distances afterwards is just not safe. Q - Is the cost of the Sound System included? A - Yes, for venues accommodating up to 200 people we supply a sound engineer with a Soundcraft Ui24r - which can record performances in high-quality if required - mixer with 2 x 1400 watt RCF Evox J8 powered speakers and subwoofers. As professional musicians, our instruments and amplifiers are all top quality too - Fender, Gretsch, Ampeg, Mesa Boogie, Nord, Pearl, Shure, AKG, SE etc. Q - Will you provide background music in between performances? A - Yes, all performances - unless the Client has made other arrangements with another DJ or Act - will have pre and post music - complimentary in style - as well as in between sets. Q - Do you have a DJ available? A - Yes, The Duke is available to DJ the whole evening until Midnight, please contact for details and to discuss your requirements.

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

That some of the songs we play just aren't covered by other party bands, we love soul, funk, disco and jazz-funk music and so do our Clients usually - if not then they do by the time we've finished our sets! We play dance music from a specific era with lots of great racks to choose from. Plus we have a great singer!!

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Many of us have played iconic venues up and down the UK - Hammersmith Palais, Ronnie Scott's, The Lyceum, The Forum, King Tut's Wah Wah Hut, Jazz Cafe to name but a few...

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Everybody in our song list and many more besides outside this band's genres, good music is good music.

Will the singer be the same as who I see in the videos?

Absolutely yes! We do have pre-auditioned 'dep' musicians available who we have known and played with for a long time in case a band member falls ill or is otherwise unavailable. As a professional band our reputation means everything so you can be confident that everyone we work with is of a very high standard.

Do you have different line-up options?

We usually play out as a six-piece (singer, sax, keys, guitar, drums & bass), but we can also perform as a 5 or 4 -piece, as an instrumental quintet/quartet or trio if required and, for larger events and budgets, additional musicians (brass section, percussion, backing singers etc).

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

We always try our best to be flexible to help ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. If timings change slightly in the run up to the event just let us know and we'll do all we can to accommodate.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Absolutely. This is a really popular request and we actually offer this service for free. If you'd like a DJ service using our top of the range PA after the final set until the venue closes, The Duke, our resident DJ will provide this for an additional £250 up until midnight.

How much time do you need to set up?

We usually set up about 1 to 1.5 hours before the performance time to get sound-checked and fully prepared before your Guests arrive.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

Our performances and song choices are based on our experience of what works best for our band from countless performances and learning what works best to ensure guests dance and have an amazing time. However, we're definitely happy to chat through and make sure we find what works for your event.

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA & lighting) included in your quote?

PA and basic lighting is included. If you require additional lighting, this will need to be discussed on our initial call as we are not specialists and there may someone closer to your venue who can supply your exact requirements better.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

If there is a special song you'd like us to learn we are happy to do this for you. We will learn up to 2 x songs (first dance, etc) and there is no charge for this service.

I'd booked Mac's previous band and they were terrific, so was keen to see what his new band was like and these guys didn't disappoint, playing non-stop-dance-able soul and funk classics which the crowd really loved. The band really look like they're having great fun too and it's infectious, definitely not your average function band!

I'm not normally a big fan of open mic nights but these guys were terrific! Very funky and soulful, the guy next to me said they were 'spiritually funky'!!! Can't wait to see them again!
