Weekend Edition You can’t help but be pleasantly surprised at The Eyes Have It Music Festival, and seeing Weekend Edition play there was a case in point. This eight piece band laid down some funky rhythms with some well known Soul and Motown covers. I kinda expected something good when I saw the band setting up with a full drum kit and bongos, as well as seeing their striking vocalist Celia wandering around beforehand, and I wasn’t to be disappointed with Weekend Edition’s performance. The band actually have three vocalists; complementing Celia up front is the equally competent Anna and Jonno, who definitely add an extra dimension to a sound not normally found bands who play this kind of music. The bass lines are always important in a band like this and their bassist certainly gave the performance that funky sound that bands like Chic are renown for. In fact I made mention to Ted, our MC, how good it was sounding. Add to this the all important drums and percussion backed by some tasty keyboard playing from James along with a generous serving of Clive’s electric guitar and you have a recipe for some great music to groove to. We were treated to three quarters of an hour of quality music which included songs by Stevie Wonder and Earth Wind and Fire as well as Michael Jackson’s ‘Man in the Mirror’ and the Rose Royce classic ‘Car Wash.’
