Wayne was born in Swansea, South Wales where he studied piano and organ from an early age. His interest in singing began early on when he became a lay clerk in Brecon Cathedral Choir, and encouraged by the then choirmaster David Gedge MBE, started singing lessons shortly afterwards. He was regularly called on as soloist in the Cathedral Choir services and concerts. He went on to study both at the Guildhall School of Music and Trinity College of Music in London with Mollie Petrie, Morag Noble and John Wakefield. He has taken part in masterclasses with Roger Vignoles, Ian Partridge, Raimund Herincx, Martyn Hill and Anthony Roden amongst others. Opera directors he has worked with include Patrick Libby, Anthony Besch, Carlos Wagner, Robert Cheddar, Michael Hunt and Terry John Bates. Most recently studying in London with the Australian tenor, Anthony Roden. Wayne has worked as a pianist and accompanist for many years. For some time he had a successful jazz group called the Summers Trio, performing regularly at venues such as Harvey Nichols, Pizza Express, Soho and Jazz After Dark. He has taught both singing and piano for many years, with several pupils going on to study at professional stage and music schools. He now teaches from his music studio in South Ealing. Wayne also works as a piano teacher at First Step School Of Dance & Drama.
