Born in Hong Kong, Waibun Chan received his undergraduate musical training at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He studied viola performance there with Ricardo Zwietisch. As an orchestral musician, Waibun was appointed as the principal viola of the Chung Chi Orchestra and the Pro Arte Orchestra of Hong Kong during 2011-2014. He is also a member of the Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra and the Guildhall Symphony Orchestra. Waibun was part of the Eastern Music Festival in the summer of 2013, studying with Dan Reinker during this time.In addition, he was selected to perform in the public masterclass of Robert Vernon and Paul Coletti. In addition to his orchestral experience, Waibun is an accomplished chamber musician. His current and past chamber groups include the 103 Quartet, Yin Quartet, Lysander Quartet and Evergreen Quintet (Clarinet Quintet). Waibun is continuing his postgraduate studies in viola under the tutelage of Matthew Jones in the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London with aid of scholarships
