About Universal Translators

Cover band
Hereford
Public liability insurance of £10 million
Fabulous rocking 3 piece band, experienced, covering everyone's favourites from the 60's to the present day. 'Great Music for Great Nights'

With over one hundred years of performing experience between them, the three members of The Universal Translators certainly know how to keep up the energy and excitement of live music throughout a performance. Choosing from a very extensive repertoire of songs dating from the late fifties through to the present day, the setlist for any given event or venue can be selected to suit any age group, era or style. Tony Egan and Mark McCarthy were both founder members of the band in 2009 with Simon Newcombe joining to take over responsibilities as 'Axeman' in 2013. High levels of musicianship and Mark Mcarthy's clear and versatile vocal abilities make for 'Great Music for Great Nights'

Customer questions

Will the singer be the same as who I see in the videos?

Yes, we guarantee the personnel you see on the videos will be the ones performing for your event.

Do you have different line-up options?

None

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

We always try our best to be flexible to help ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. If timings change slightly in the run up to the event just let us know.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes we can provide iPod music before and between sets from the moment our PA set up.

How much time do you need to set up?

We usually set up about 1 to 1.5 hours before the performance time.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

Yes, our set lists are crafted from countless performances and learning what works best to ensure guests dance and have a good time. However, we're definitely happy to chat through our extensive set list and cherry pick to make sure we play the songs that work for your event.

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA & lighting) included in your quote?

Yes, our PA and lighting is included in the quote.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

We are very happy to learn new songs that may be favourites of yours, provided we are given enough notice. We don't charge any extra for this as we consider any opportunity to expand our setlist a bonus for the band.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

In this age of so much piped and overproduced recorded music, we find audiences are excited by the raw energy of a live performance. They are also engaged by dancing and singing along to so many of the classics from the pop/rock world.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

The Pavillion Llandidrod Wells, Cowbridge Food & Drink Festival (Champaign Marquee), Tenby Harbour Open Air, Alfreds Pontypridd plus absolutely countless bars, pubs, social clubs and rugby clubs around south and mid Wales.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

We have been around a long time so our influences are too numerous to mention, but to generalise, guitar-based rock/pop bands from the Beatles to the Artic Monkeys

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

Probably Tenby Harbour Open Air (which is where most of our video material originates) where we have performed for the last three summers. The audience probably numbers in the thousands given that we are audible and visible to the entire harbour bay and adjoining beaches.

Universal Translators Review “Universal Translators played at the Wyeside’s 40th Birthday Party and hammered out a number of floor fillers from the 70’s. Their energy and stage presence was phenomenal and the atmosphere was buzzing. I rarely got off the dance floor and can’t wait for their next gig. Book them, you won’t be disappointed!” Jill Mustafa Wyeside General Manager December 2018 Jill Mustafa General Manager|Wyeside Arts Centre <image001.png> <image002.png> <image003.png> +44 (0)1982 553668 Wyeside Arts Centre, Castle Street, Builth Wells, Powys, LD2 3BN wyeside.co.uk

Hi mark (universal translators) We met you 4yrs ago in the cornhill in Rhayader, really enjoyed the music and you and the rest of the band are really friendly. We have got to know you all really well, we have followed you to many pubs and music venues. We have booked you for party's and you have accommodated our play list. We had a tragic passing of one of our close friends,so out of respect for him (clanger) we asked you and the band to play at a celebration of his life every year, and you have stepped up to the plate every time. We have friends that travel 5hrs to come and see you preform. What an amazing band and a bunch of friends. Look forward to seeing you all soon.
