Customer questions
What do your clients love most about your performances?
The music is full of energy, with sophisticated, modern, virtuosic arrangements that show off the band's incredible talent, while remaining clear for dancing, and respectful of the source material. The calling is welcoming, encouraging, and funny - for example we have done events for both of the UK's main political parties with appropriate jokes both ways!
Which venues have you performed at in the past?
Individually the band's professional members have appeared at all the major UK performance venues and made frequent TV and radio broadcasts. As a group, Triple Scotch Ceilidh Band has performed at countless hotels, venues and event spaces in the UK from Oxbridge colleges to Manchester Academy, and has performed in France, Portugal and the Netherlands.
Which artists have you been most influenced by?
The great Scots fiddle players who were also classically trained with a complete mastery of the instrument, such as James Scott Skinner and Neil Gow, refracted through a modern approach to groove, harmonisation and accompaniment.
What is the most high profile gig you've performed?
Our fiddle player Stephen has performed on stage with Lady Gaga among others. The other members have also provided backing for major artists, and as a band we have played for celebrity charity fundraisers, major political conferences, and many events with notable and distinguished guests.
Can you perform covers?
We perform background trad tunes between dances, but we don't offer covers 'in case you get fed up with ceilidh dancing' as we have enough expertise to run the event so that doesn't happen (until DJ time at the end). We are professionals however, and have often backed (impromptu) best men or grooms etc who wish to sing etc, and this always goes down a storm.
Do you have different line-up options?
We have worked hard at getting an optimal line-up of three top players, one of whom is the caller. The lineup of fiddle, piano and drums can give bags of energy to any size of crowd but is also the smallest group where all the boxes of rhythm, harmony, etc are ticked. This lineup is also easy to mix and set up quickly in any situation.
What if my timings change after I've booked you?
We always try our best to be flexible to help ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. If timings change slightly in the run-up to the event just let us know.
Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?
Absolutely. This is a very popular request and we offer this service for free. If you'd like a DJ service via our PA after the final set of live music, we provide this for an additional £195.
How much time do you need to set up?
We are quicker than many groups as our lineup is small, so we can usually be set up in less than an hour. We would usually arrive about an hour before performance time, so please let us know if your requirements for setup would be different to that. Once the PA is on we provide an mp3 playlist to set the atmosphere and build anticipation to the performance!
Do you provide a caller?
Yes! Our caller is enormously experienced and will be able to 'read the room' to call dances at the right energy level and pace for the event. All dances are called with patience and good humour, with the right balance of clarity for newcomers, and brevity for more seasoned ceilidh dancers.
Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?
Please do let us know if you have any particular favourite ceilidh dances, but our set lists are crafted from years of performances and learning what works best to ensure guests dance and have an amazing time. However, we're definitely happy to chat through and make sure we find what works for your event.
Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA) included in your quote?
The quote always includes the band's PA and lighting. It is a very high-end system (Nexo speakers, Allen & Heath mixer etc), and so we would always prefer to use our own equipment. If you are also hiring a professional technical/production company we will of course be happy to work with them, so please do let us know and put us in touch with them directly.
Can you learn song requests before the event?
If there are one or two important music requests for significant moments during the gig we are very happy to take those on board to make the event extra special. Generally though there is no need to give us a specific and exhaustive list - one or two pointers in a particular genre/direction will be fine, and we will make it work for you!
