Triple Scotch is the UK's finest Scottish ceilidh band available to perform at special events. Formed while the players were music students, the band's professionalism meant they were immediately in great demand, and Triple Scotch now has over 15 years' experience presenting unforgettable and energetic ceilidh experiences at high-end events all over the UK and across Europe. Playing for many top companies, political parties, universities, major charity fundraisers and of course weddings, Triple Scotch will create the perfect evening for any number of guests. The band is used to dealing with seasoned dancers, first-time ceilidh-ers and everything in between, so whatever your previous ceilidh experience they are the right choice for your event. The standard of playing is breathtaking and unmatched by any other group on the circuit: unlike many function bands we exclusively use a very small pool of excellent and committed players, and we only commit to bookings where we know we can provide the A-team. The dances are called clearly and with good humour (and patience). Triple Scotch will always work with you when planning the timings and logistics of your event, and the band's experience means that they are able to advise on such matters with in-depth personal knowledge if required. In between dances, the band can perform background Scottish music and also offers a DJ option, which can be a fantastic way to round off the evening. Please get in touch - we'd love to help make your event extra special.

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

The music is full of energy, with sophisticated, modern, virtuosic arrangements that show off the band's incredible talent, while remaining clear for dancing, and respectful of the source material. The calling is welcoming, encouraging, and funny - for example we have done events for both of the UK's main political parties with appropriate jokes both ways!

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Individually the band's professional members have appeared at all the major UK performance venues and made frequent TV and radio broadcasts. As a group, Triple Scotch has performed at countless hotels, venues and event spaces in the UK from Oxbridge colleges to Manchester Academy, and has performed in France, Portugal and the Netherlands.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

The great Scots fiddle players who were also classically trained with a complete mastery of the instrument, such as James Scott Skinner and Neil Gow, refracted through a modern approach to groove, harmonisation and accompaniment.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

Our fiddle player Stephen has performed on stage with Lady Gaga among others. The other members have also provided backing for major artists, and as a band we have played for celebrity charity fundraisers, major political conferences, and many events with notable and distinguished guests.

Can you perform covers?

We perform background trad tunes between dances, but we don't offer covers 'in case you get fed up with ceilidh dancing' as we have enough expertise to run the event so that doesn't happen (until DJ time at the end). We are professionals however, and have often backed (impromptu) best men or grooms etc who wish to sing etc, and this always goes down a storm.

Do you have different line-up options?

We have worked hard at getting an optimal line-up of three top players, one of whom is the caller. The lineup of fiddle, piano and drums can give bags of energy to any size of crowd but is also the smallest group where all the boxes of rhythm, harmony, etc are ticked. This lineup is also easy to mix and set up quickly in any situation.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

We always try our best to be flexible to help ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. If timings change slightly in the run-up to the event just let us know.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Absolutely. This is a very popular request and we offer this service for free. If you'd like a DJ service via our PA after the final set of live music, we provide this for an additional £195.

How much time do you need to set up?

We are quicker than many groups as our lineup is small, so we can usually be set up in less than an hour. We would usually arrive about an hour before performance time, so please let us know if your requirements for setup would be different to that. Once the PA is on we provide an mp3 playlist to set the atmosphere and build anticipation to the performance!

Do you provide a caller?

Yes! Our caller is enormously experienced and will be able to 'read the room' to call dances at the right energy level and pace for the event. All dances are called with patience and good humour, with the right balance of clarity for newcomers, and brevity for more seasoned ceilidh dancers.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

Please do let us know if you have any particular favourite ceilidh dances, but our set lists are crafted from years of performances and learning what works best to ensure guests dance and have an amazing time. However, we're definitely happy to chat through and make sure we find what works for your event.

Is all of the equipment (e.g. PA) included in your quote?

The quote always includes the band's PA and lighting. It is a very high-end system (Nexo speakers, Allen & Heath mixer etc), and so we would always prefer to use our own equipment. If you are also hiring a professional technical/production company we will of course be happy to work with them, so please do let us know and put us in touch with them directly.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

If there are one or two important music requests for significant moments during the gig we are very happy to take those on board to make the event extra special. Generally though there is no need to give us a specific and exhaustive list - one or two pointers in a particular genre/direction will be fine, and we will make it work for you!

Triple Scotch Ceilidh band were brilliant! Most people at our wedding were completely new to ceilidh dancing and the calling was clear and patient all night. The ceilidh music was amazing and they switched to a disco later on in the evening for us. We had an amazing evening and would highly recommend them!!

Triple Scotch are a truly fantastic band. Ahead of our wedding, while it could sometimes take a little while to get responses, information was always conveyed very clearly and Olly was excellent at understanding what we required. The band were very flexible and able to perform all the songs requested. There was excellent attention to detail and very clear pride in their work. We had the full day package – ceremony / reception / evening ceilidh / disco – and can wholeheartedly recommend this. They played the songs we selected for our ceremony really beautifully, and they helped create a lovely relaxed atmosphere in our drinks reception. They were punctual, exemplary in appearance and manner, and really polite and warm throughout the day. They were also completely confident setting up and moving equipment for different parts of the day, comfortably liaising with the venue. For weddings/big events when there is so much going on, this confident professionalism that comes from their extensive experience is a real plus. The ceilidh was excellent – each dance was clearly explained by Olly with a good dose of humour. We have had so many people compliment the music. Hardly anybody at our wedding had taken part in a ceilidh before and everybody found it to be great fun – it was such a highlight of the evening. The energy and enthusiasm was infectious. The disco until midnight was a lovely way of finishing everything off – there were people on the dancefloor throughout the night, and the choice of songs and the lighting equipment used were very effective. They went above and beyond, and we are both very happy that we chose them for our big day.

Triple Scotch were the perfect Ceilidh band for our wedding and kept the energy high throughout the evening. We had a full dance floor at the beginning and the end of the night and have had so many comments from our guests complimenting the band. Olly was excellent in adapting the evening to suit our wishes and we couldn't have been happier with how it all went. Thank you!
