About Tom

Born in London lived in Nicaragua. I enjoy mountain climbing, reading, meditating, sitting in coffee shops and playing/listening to music.

Tom started playing the viola aged 9 with Angela Cambel. At 16 he joined junior guildhall with Mark Knight as his teacher and later received the viola scholarship. Whilst at Junior Guildhall he played in a masterclass with Eva Smitt, played Lachrymae in St. Martins and the Fields and was the only string player in the final of the lutine prize. Tom was offered 5 scholarships when auditioning for Music Colleges. In September (2013) Tom played in a masterclass with Lawrence Power. This September Tom was commended for his performance of Martinu’s Rhapsody concerto in the final of the Max and Peggy Morgan award by Paul Silverthorne. Tom is interested in composing, playing contemporary music and collaborating in cross arts projects. Tom plays a viola made by Malcolm Coombes.
