Now living in London, he is studying with Janice Graham (Leader, English National Opera) at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, towards Master of Music and Master of Performance degrees. Tom graduated with his Bachelor's degree from Royal Northern College of Music in 2016, having studied with Gina McCormack. He was educated in his school years at Chetham's School of Music, Manchester, studying with Eyal Kless and Wen Zhou Li. Tom has been playing in orchestras since the age of seven, including three years in the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, with whom he performed across the UK, including three performances at the BBC Proms. He has worked with such conductors as Vasily Petrenko, Semyon Bychkov, Sir Mark Elder, Paul Daniel and Vladimir Jurowski. In 2017 he was accepted onto the Britten-Pears Young Artist programme, and will be performing in the Britten-Pears Orchestra under Marin Alsop in April. He was appointed Principal 2nd Violin of the Ernest Read Symphony Orchestra in 2017, and holds the same seat with University of London Symphony Orchestra. He has also been the Leader of Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and Leeds Youth Opera. In 2013 he founded the Piccadilly Symphony Orchestra; a new orchestra based in Manchester to provide extra performance opportunities for young professionals and conservatoire students. As well as being Leader of the orchestra, Tom was also Artistic Director, fixer and administrator until leaving the orchestra in 2014. During his time at RNCM, he sat as leader, co-leader and principal 2nd violin over a multitude of orchestral projects, including four with RNCM Symphony Orchestra. Tom now performs in a mixed chamber music group at Guildhall, and has been working on repertoire including Messiaen’s “Quartet for the End of Time” and Schnittke’s “Piano Trio. In 2010, Tom founded the Arcana String Quartet, and organised seasonal concert series for the quartet over three years in several venues in Altrincham and Hale, Cheshire. As a soloist he has performed in several recitals around the UK and in June 2013 gave his first concerto performance with Bruch's “Violin Concerto No.1” and Blackpool Symphony Orchestra. This was followed by another performance of the Bruch with South Cheshire Orchestra in November 2013. He also performed the solo violin part in Ethel Smythe’s Violin and Horn Concerto at the Manchester Pride Chamber Music Festival in 2014. In 2015 Tom gained one of two violin places in the London Sinfonietta Academy scheme, working with Pierre-Andre Valade and London Sinfonietta players. Upon invitation by Eyal and Yair Kless, in 2010 he attended the prestigious Internationale Sommerakademie at the Universitat Mozarteum, Salzburg – just one of the many international summer courses on which he has participated. He has received teaching and master classes from such artists as Eyal Kless, Yair Kless, Veronika Eberle, Mark Gothoni, Marianne Thorsen, Leland Chen, Sally O’Reilly, Eriko Tsuchihashi, Pavel Fischer and Jim Clark. Tom would like to extend sincere thanks and gratitude to the George Drexler Foundation, whose generous support has made his studies at Guildhall School possible.
