About Tom Rotherham Music

Specialising in popular classical & Spanish guitar pieces, my beautiful and relaxing music is perfectly tailored for weddings & events!
Classical Guitarist
Brighton

I have studied music, music technology and performance from early primary school through to Degree level, I have four Grade 8s in classical guitar, electric guitar, trumpet and recorders and have a BMus degree in Creative Music Technology from The University of Huddersfield. I have vast performance experience, having performed in countless capacities almost all my life, starting professionally from age 15. My greatest passion is in the nylon string guitar, with which I specialise in the most popular pieces of classical, Spanish and South American guitar music and also play my own fingerstyle/classical-style cover arrangements of classic pop & rock songs. I usually tailor my set towards whichever style is preffered. I have been performing this music proffessionally for 13 years, either as ambience-music at weddings, bars/restaurants and private events or as receital-style performances at private events, festivals, in ceremonies and at care-homes. I'm also a sound engineer and am very conscious of making sure my sound is high-quality throughout the venue without ever being intrusive. I often provide my own sound-system. Please do let me know if you have any questions. :)

Tom was fantastic and helped me make my proposal to my partner perfect. He learnt my requested song, arrived on time and performed superbly. I would highly recommend Tom for weddings. His classic guitar can make special moments even better.

"Tom was absolutely fantastic at our wedding; completely professional, sounded amazing and everyone commented on how lovely the atmosphere was with him playing, both during the ceremony and the reception. He also learnt a couple of our favourite songs to make our day even more special. We would recommend him to anyone! THANK YOU!!"

Customer questions

What do your clients love most about your performances?

I find clients particularly grateful for my flexibility and intuition on the day of the event, playing their favourite pieces at specific moments, timing and tailoring my set around the somteimes unpredictable nature of guests arriving and moving around and always being open to any in-the-moment requests.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

I have vast experience of performing professionally, for private events at popular wedding venues and for large crowds touring around the UK with my band at Bestival, Isle of Wight Festival and abroad in Australia and Europe.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

My favourite music for the guitar is by 'the greats', namely Francisco Tarrega and his stunning innovation, pushing the boundaries of what is possible on the guitar as a solo instrument. My favourite of his is Requerdos de l'Alhambra. I also love all sorts of modern pop, jazz, folk and electronic music and enjoy making arrangements of these for the guitar.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

I performed on the 2000 people capacity main-stage of Boomtown festival as well as major stages on festivals around the UK including Bestival and the Isle of Wight Festival.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

I normally have the freedom to be flexible with my dates and timings. I understand it can be hard to commit to specific times so please just get in touch and I can usually work with your new, changing logistics.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Absolutely! I can easily provide a cable to plug your device into my PA sound system. For a small extra fee I can stick around before or after my set to help while you use the equipment.

How much time do you need to set up?

Usually around an hour. I like to take time to make sure my sound system is best positioned to provide best sound quality whilst being totally unobtrusive.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

Yes please do. And if there's a style you'd prefer to hear more of - classical, Spanish, pop/rock etc. I am very happy to tailor my set more towards that.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Yes, apart from a chair and a power-point (depending on the type of gig!)

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

Yes! If there's a special piece of music you'd like me to arrange on guitar for your event I'd be more than happy to do so! I will change an extra fee based on the time it will take for me to arrange and learn the piece.
