About Tim

Award winning Yorkshire based composer, organist, pianist, music publisher, conductor and teacher with a career spanning over thirty years.
Organist
Leeds, West Yorkshire
Public liability insurance of £2 million

Born in North Yorkshire, Tim became a chorister in York Minster Choir under Dr Francis Jackson, with the daily round of choral services exposing him to an immense and diverse repertoire. Tim also studied choral conducting with John Coates and, at the age of 8, composed his first piece of music (a grace for his school which subsequently became used regularly). After many years accruing knowledge, expertise and experience, Tim now enjoys a multi-faceted musical career as: Composer and Arranger of Choral, Instrumental, Orchestral and Organ music for all abilities and occasions; Conductor and Choral Director of 3 Yorkshire choirs (two of which he founded); Author of best-selling 'must-have' choir and concert management books; Music Publisher of his own portfolio and a number of other Composers; Keynote speaker, Guest Conductor, Recitalist, Pianist and Organist; Over 20 years' experience running Choir tours, Singing Holidays and Choral Workshops; Teacher and mentor to budding composers, conductors and singers. Tim is a problem-solver and loves nothing more than to get his teeth into a new project and always applies a common sense, practical approach to achieve the end goal.

I was looking for a way to improve my composition skills but it’s hard to know where to turn. I liked Tim’s work so I jumped in for some 1-2-1 sessions not quite knowing what to expect! It’s going to be a slightly different experience for everyone I guess, but to me the benefit of having guidance from someone who really knows his stuff is invaluable and Tim’s observations made me think differently from day one.

We bought a sailing boat, sold the house, and travelled 15,000 miles, including two Atlantic crossings. Eventually reality kicks in and a house beckons; landlubbers again. However, you have memories and log books to remember the highs and lows! What better way to commemorate a trip of a lifetime than a musical composition. Over a cup of coffee with Tim Knight we discussed the commission, and left Tim with the log book entries and suggestions. Tim Knight has a very relaxed and easy going manner which belies his dedication and professionalism in producing the finished article. I first heard ‘Atlantic Rhapsody’ when it premiered at a ‘sea’ themed concert at St Bartholomew’s Church in Leeds organized by Tim in March 2018. It embodied all my expectations and Tim delivered a stunning piece of music to remember a memorable voyage.
